Kerala registers 5,711 new coronavirus cases on Dec 20. 30 dead

Kerala on Sunday reported 5,711 fresh cases of Covid-19, informed Health Minister K. K. Shailaja.

The district wise distribution of positive cases is: Kottayam – 905, Malappuram – 662, Kozhikode – 650, Ernakulam – 591, Kollam – 484, Thrissur – 408, Pathanamthitta – 360, Thiruvananthapuram – 333, Kannur – 292, Alappuzha – 254, Palakkad – 247, Idukki – 225, Wayanad – 206 and Kasaragod – 94.

53,858 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate is at 10.60 percent. So far, 73,47,376 samples were tested in different priority groups.

Thirty deaths were confirmed in the state on December 20. With this, the total number of coronavirus fatalities rose to 2,816. Out of the total number of positive cases, 111 people came from outside the state.

5,058 people contracted the virus through contact. The virus source of 501 cases has not been identified.

The district wise distribution of contact cases is: Kottayam – 853, Malappuram – 623, Kozhikode – 621, Ernakulam – 437, Kollam – 478, Thrissur – 389, Pathanamthitta – 297, Thiruvananthapuram – 240, Kannur – 249, Alappuzha – 239, Palakkad – 125, Idukki – 216, Wayanad – 202 and Kasaragod – 89.

Forty one health workers tested COVID positive on this day. The district wise cases of Covid positive health workers are: Ernakulam – 9, Pathanamthitta and Kozhikode – 6 each, Kannur and Thrissur – 5 each, Thiruvananthapuram – 3, Palakkad and Wayanad – 2 each, Kollam, Kottayam and Kasaragod – 1 each.

4,471 people have recovered from the disease. The district wise statistics of negative cases are: Thiruvananthapuram – 315, Kollam – 298, Pathanamthitta – 182, Alappuzha – 433, Kottayam – 415, Idukki – 97, Ernakulam – 499, Thrissur – 279, Palakkad – 267, Malappuram – 641, Kozhikode – 684, Wayanad – 164, Kannur – 160 and Kasaragod – 37.

Currently, there are 61,604 people undergoing treatment in the state. 6,41,285 people have recovered from the disease. 2,87,099 people are under observation across various districts in the state. Out of this, 2,73,398 people are in home/institutional quarantine and 13,701 people are in hospitals. 1,393 people were taken to hospitals on December 20.

Two new hotspots were identified in the state while 2 areas were removed from the list. In total, there are 458 hotspots in Kerala.
