Restrictions imposed on public transportation in Kerala have been lifted until September 1 in view of Onam.
Now, there will not be any restriction on buses conducting services to anywhere in the state. Earlier, buses were allowed to ply only till the neighbouring districts. As per the new order services can be held from 6 am to 10 pm.
The cabinet had approved tax reduction for private buses for private buses in the state the other day. Transport Minister A. K. Saseendran said that tax from July to September will be exempted in this regard. Taxes on school buses were also exempted.
Most of the private buses had stopped service claiming loss even after the government increased ticket fare. Following the latest order, the Minister said that the bus operators cannot continue with their non cooperation.
