Kerala doctors to work extra hour on July 1 as mark of protest

The Kerala Government Doctors will observe July 1, Doctors’ Day as a day of suffering and work an extra hour in protest against the Government of Kerala not considering the demand of the Kerala Government Medical Officers’ Association that they be exempted from Salary Challenge as they have been working overtime for the past three months without a break.
In a letter to the Director of the Department of Health the doctors also demanded special incentives such as two advanced increment without bringing too much burden on the State.
They also wanted withheld funds under RSBY/RBSK/JSSY/KASP to be released so that the work in important hospitals are not affected. The government should also appoint on contract basis doctors and other staff in COVID treatment centres and CFLTCs according to the number of patients.
The doctors in charge of PHCs, FHCs and CHC be given compensatory offs for the holidays they are working and also enough rest for the health workers.
On July 1, the members of the association will also be distributing notice to the public. Ten doctors in important hospitals will stage a sit-in to make the public aware of their plight.
