Kerala continues to witness violent protests, lathi-charge; MP NK Premachandran gets injured

A Congress worker suffered a head injury after the police resorted to a lathi-charge in Thodupuzha. He was rushed to the hospital.

Thiruvananthapuram: The protests led by Congress across the state demanding Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s resignation gave way to violent conflict MP N K Premachandran was injured in the protest held in Kollam. A Congress worker suffered a head injury after the police resorted to a lathi-charge in Thodupuzha. He was rushed to the hospital.

MP N K Premachandran was injured in the conflict during the RSP march in Kollam. CPM and Congress workers got into a messy fight in Cherpulassery. At the same time, CPM members interrupted a Mahila Congress meeting. Congress alleged that DYFI activists misbehaved with Mahila Congress members and that they forcefully took the mike from them. Police used lathi-charge during the Congress protest march in Thodupuzha after the activists violently raised slogans. Congress alleged that the DYFI members who barged into opposition leader VD Satheesan’s house carried weapons with them. One of the men was caught by a policeman who was deployed for the security of the opposition leader.
Other parts of Kerala have also been witnessing protests by the Youth Congress and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. Mahila Morcha members held a rally towards Cliff House on Tuesday morning. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has been facing protests by Congress and BJP workers since the gold-smuggling case accused Swapna Suresh alleged that he and his family members had a role in the gold smuggling case. Congress claimed that the DYFI workers destroyed nearly 30 Congress offices. The protests went out of control in many places.
