Kannur varsity row: Governor may take action against VC Gopinath Raveendran

Earlier, the Governor’s decision to probe the selection of Priya Varghese, the wife of CM’s private secretary KK Ragesh, as an associate professor in Kannur varsity had irked the VC.

Kannur: Kannur University vice-chancellor Gopinath Raveendran is staring at action for his remarks on Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan’s decision to stay the selection of Priya Varghese as associate professor. Sources in Raj Bhavan said that the Governor is likely to take action once he returns from New Delhi on August 25.

Earlier, the Governor’s decision to probe the selection of Priya Varghese, the wife of CM’s private secretary KK Ragesh, as an associate professor in Kannur varsity had irked the VC. After the Governor, who is also the Chancellor of the university, froze the selection, the VC had said that the institution would challenge the decision in the court

Later, the Governor sought legal advice on taking action against the vice-chancellor. He was told that the vice-chancellor broke several rules by calling a syndicate meeting to take legal action against the Governor. Meanwhile, the university decided to file a case questioning the decision of the Governor.
