Justice Bhushan Ramakrishnan Gavai to take charge as Chief Justice today

New Delhi: Justice Bhushan Ramakrishnan Gavai will take charge as the 52nd Chief Justice of the Supreme Court today. President Draupadi Murmu will administer the oath to him at a ceremony to be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan at 10 am. Justice BR Gavai will take charge of the post of Chief Justice after Justice Sanjiv Khanna retired. Justice BR Gavai will continue as Chief Justice till November 23.
A native of Amravati in Maharashtra, Justice BR Gavai became an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court in 2003. BR Gavai took charge as a Supreme Court judge in May 2019. Justice BR Gavai, who started his practice as an advocate in the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court, is an expert in constitutional law and administrative law. The appointed Chief Justice BR Gavai is the son of former Kerala Governor RS Gavai.
