Indian envoys in the UAE have clarified that only Indians with valid residence visas or family stranded in India will be allowed to travel to the UAE now and not those seeking jobs.
India’s Ambassador to the UAE Pavan Kapoor announced on his Twitter handle on August 5: “Since the UAE has recently started issuing new visas, we have recommended to authorities in India to consider allowing Indians with valid visas to travel to the UAE. We are hopeful for an early decision.”
Consul-General of India in Dubai Dr Aman Puri said those with families in the UAE and those with new residency visas that have not yet been stamped into the passports will be allowed to travel into the UAE. However, those seeking to look for jobs after arriving on visit visas should wait.
A temporary India-UAE travel corridor, which began on July 12, will be extended till August 31. Passengers need to get pre-travel approvals from the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) or the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs (GDRFA), and a negative PCR test result from government-approved laboratories in India.
Parents of students stranded in India and those with confirmed job offers are among those requesting entry into the UAE on visit visas. Some parents have been as desperate as to book flights from India to the US to the UAE in order to bring their wards here.
