JEE Advanced 2020: IITs likely to consider syllabus cut

The Indian Institute of Technology will discuss reducing the exam syllabus and changing the entrance exam for the coming JEE(Joint Entrance Exam) Advanced 2020. This among other proposals will be pitched for discussion at the review meeting of the Joint Admissions Board (JAB). The decisions will be made in the coming weeks.

The proposals on the format of the exam, syllabus, social distancing norms are up for discussion in the review meeting. The decision will be taken after JAB’s nod.

IITs are also considering doing away with the board exam requirement for the entrance exam for the year. The decision came after CBSE and CISCE have decided not to go ahead with pending board exams and devised their own assessment schemes.

As per rules, it is mandatory for a candidate to have at least 75 percent marks in boards or be in the top 20 percentile of the Class 12 exams.

As the CBSE decided to omit 30 percent of the syllabus, it is being speculated that it has affected the NEET and JEE entrance exams for medical and engineering respectively. The entrance exams’ base their syllabus on CBSE Class 11 and 12 formats.

If Jee Advanced slashes its syllabus, it is likely that JEE Main too will follow the suit. Chances are that JEE Main, which usually happens on January 2021, might also get postponed if the schools do not re-open on time.
