Italian Embassy hosts vibrant cultural soirée in Muscat

MUSCAT : The Embassy of Italy in Muscat, in collaboration with Bait Al Zubair, celebrated an extraordinary evening of music, friendship, and cultural exchange featuring the acclaimed Mario Incudine Trio that performed “Homage to Domenico Modugno”, honoring the legacy of Italy’s iconic singer-songwriter, best known for his global hit “Nel Blu Dipinto di Blu” (Volare) on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.

Sicilian artist Mario Incudine, a celebrated figure in Italian world music, brought Modugno’s masterpieces to life alongside Antonio Vasta and Pino Ricosta, under the artistic direction of Francesca Campagna.

Modugno was a prominent figure in Italian pop music during the 1950s and is best known for the globally celebrated song “Nel Blu Dipinto di Blu”, also referred to as “Volare.” The song remains one of the most famous Italian songs worldwide. Throughout his career, Modugno received numerous awards, including two Grammy Awards, and represented Italy in various international forums.
On this occasion, H.E. Pierluigi D’Elia, Ambassador of Italy accredited to the Sultanate of Oman remarked: “We are thrilled to present this evening of Italian music and culture in the beautiful setting of Bait Al Zubair, a vital hub for cultural exchange in Oman. This event highlights the enduring friendship between our nations and the importance of fostering mutual understanding through the arts. There is no doubt that the concert by the Mario Incudine Trio inspired continued dialogue between Italian and Omani cultures.”

Speaking on behalf of Bait Al Zubair, Raphael Ayvazian, Business Development Manager said: “We view this occasion as an opportunity to shed light on new chapters of civilizational dialogue by hosting a rich and profound culture such as the Italian culture, which is abundant with artistic and intellectual achievements. We navigate its essence through music – the universal language that brings nations together, bridges distances, and allows us to truly appreciate the richness and diversity of cultures.”

The concert’s evening also marked the inauguration of the local European Union Presidency that will be ensured by the Italian embassy in Oman until 30 June 2025, underscoring Italy’s commitment to promoting European values and collaboration worldwide. The Embassy will assume this role in coordination with the European Delegation in Riyadh and European partners in Oman.

Additionally, in recent months, an agreement was signed between the Bait Al Zubair Institute for Culture and Knowledge and the Italian institute Dante Alighieri in collaboration with the Italian Embassy.
