iPhone 12 to be made in India, Apple hires 10,000 local employees

Wistron, Apple’s Taiwanese manufacturer, is apparently planning to make iPhone 12 in India, and the company has already started the hiring of 10,000 local employees, according to reports. It should be noted that the Cupertino giant is already assembling several of its existing iPhone models in India, and it includes iPhone 6S, iPhone 7, iPhone 11, and iPhoneXR.

Even though the launch of iPhone 12 is yet to be officially announced by Apple, the company has already hired 2,000 locals to work in their Karnataka facility in Kolar district, Business Standard reported. The company plans to hire 8,000 employees more before the launch of the operations.

The hiring process is now going on in a phased manner, and as of now, walk-in interviews of diploma candidates have been conducted. More interviews with experienced professionals are expected to take place soon in Kolar.

According to reports, Wistron has planned to invest more than Rs.2,900 crores to ramp up the production of iPhone parts in India.

Several previous reports have stated that Wistron’s South Indian unit will manufacture printed circuit boards (PCBs) for iPhones, It should be noted that PCB is a bed for vital components like processors, memory, and wireless chipsets, and once assembled, it accounts for about half the cost of a smartphone.
