International Chamber Hosts “Sruthi Mathaa.. Laya Pithaa” May Concert Dedicated to Global Anti-Drugs Campaign

Tripunithura, Kerala : The International Chamber for Indian Music & Culture, under the PK Koyickal Trust, successfully hosted its May edition of the monthly Carnatic music concert series “Sruthi Mathaa.. Laya Pithaa”, dedicated to the international anti-drug campaign. The concert was performed from GN Swamy Sangeetha Vidyalayam, Tripunithura, with notable participation from musicians and dignitaries.

The series, which began in March 2025, aims to promote Carnatic music globally, while also supporting social causes. This month’s theme emphasized the power of music as a healing and transformative force. “Music should be the addiction of life, not drugs,” said Tripunithura Aasthana Vidwan Prof. P R Kumara Kerala Varma, during his felicitation speech. He also highlighted the positive impact of ragas like Mohanam, Shankarabharanam, and Ananda Bhairavi in enhancing mental well-being.

Sri. Tripunithura N Radhakrishnan, Secretary of GN Swamy Sangeetha Vidyalayam and Chief Advisory Board Member of the International Chamber, delivered the keynote address. “Our mission is to spread the spiritual and therapeutic essence of music across borders. With every concert, we strive to provide a soulful alternative to negative influences,” he stated.

A Global Platform for Carnatic Music

The “Sruthi Mathaa.. Laya Pithaa” concert series is the first of its kind in Carnatic music history, offering an international performance platform for both NRI and Indian musicians. It alternates between domestic and international venues, with concerts scheduled for every second Friday of the month.

The series is also a continuation of the Chamber’s successful five-year journey organizing the International Ganesha Sangeethotsavam, with the next edition set for August 27, 2025. The initiative is affiliated with the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi and promotes traditional Indian music across 12 countries with plans for further global expansion.

Divine Roots of Carnatic Tradition

The program title “Sruthi Mathaa.. Laya Pithaa” pays homage to the foundational elements of Carnatic music—Shruthi (pitch) and Laya (rhythm)—revered respectively as the Mother and Father of all musical compositions. The Chamber also dedicates these concerts to the divine feminine, honoring Goddesses Durga, Lakshmi, and Saraswathi.
