India’s overall coronavirus tally crosses 26 lakh

The total number of COVID-19 cases in India on Monday, rose to 26,47,664, including 6,76,900 active cases, 19,19,843 discharged/recovered patients and 50,921 deaths. As many as 941 casualties in the past 24 hours

Meanwhile, India on Monday exceeded conducting 3 crore tests for COVID-19, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.

“Aggressive TESTING leads to early identification and isolation of #COVID19 positive cases. This coupled with efficient clinical treatment brings the Fatality Rate down,” the Ministry tweeted.

India has been reporting over 60,000 cases daily since August 7, except for August 11 when the country registered 53,601 new instances of the infection.

A heat map based on state-wise Covid-19 data developed by the Department of Economic Affairs in the Union Finance Ministry reveals that economic indicators including electricity consumption, e-way bill generation and MNREGA work creation, are looking better in states with higher control over cases and recoveries.

While this may seem intuitive, it needs to be seen in the backdrop that economic recovery is crucially linked to a dozen states, which also account for 85 per cent of the Covid-19 caseload. Within states, the two worst hit states— Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu — make up 40 per cent of confirmed cases.
