India’s COVID-19 tally breaches 96-lakh mark

India on Saturday registered 36,652 new coronavirus cases in 24 hours, according to the fresh figures released by the Union Health Ministry. With this the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country rose to 96.08 lakh.

The total number of coronavirus cases in India stood at 96,08,211.

A total of 512 people died due to COVID-19 in a span of 24 hours. The data updated at 8am showed. With this, COVID-19 death toll in the country climbed to 1,39,700.

A total of 90,58,822 people have recovered from the deadly disease so far pushing the national recovery rate to 94.28 percent.The Covid-19 case fatality rate was recorded at 1.45 percent.

According to the data released by the health ministry, there are a total of 4,09,689 active coronavirus cases in the country which comprises 4.26 percent of caseload.

Kerala and Maharashtra continue to be the biggest contributors, reporting more than 5000 new cases on Friday. Maharashtra accounts for the highest number of both active cases and fatalities.

The total number of samples tested upto December 4 is 14,58,85,512 including 11,57,763 samples tested till December 4.

The Congress party on Friday voiced concerns over the availability of a Covid-19 vaccine at the grass root level in the country with Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi asking the centre to assure and clarify that every Indian will get it.

During the all-party virtual meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the Covid-19 situation in the country, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad also said that COVID-like pandemics can pose a threat to the country’s internal security and policy makers should address this challenge.

Prime Minister announced earlier in the day that three vaccines are in trial stage in India and when ready, healthcare and frontline workers, and elderly persons with serious ailments will be given priority in vaccination. Speaking on the vaccine challenges and the way forward, PM Modi also said that deliberations are on with the states about the dissemination and pricing of the vaccine.
