India’s tally of COVID-19 cases stands at over 74 lakh

India reported a spike of 62,212 new coronavirus cases on October 17 with 837 deaths. With the latest figures, India’s coronavirus caseload now stands at over 74 lakhs.

India currently has 74,32,681 coronavirus cases and 1,12,998 deaths , according to the data released by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday (October 17).

Among the total confirmed cases, there are 7,95,087 active cases and 65,24,596 were cured.
India has one of the lowest coronavirus deaths per million population in the world, as the country registered less than 1,000 fatalities daily since October 4, the Union Health Ministry said.

However Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said upcoming months are going to be crucial to combat COVID-19 in India, because of the winter and festival season.

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday deputed high level Central teams to Kerala, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal. These States have been reporting a surge in the number of new Covid cases in the recent days.

The global tally of coronavirus cases stands at 39,565,948. While 29,648,915 have recovered, 1,108,617 have died so far. The US, the worst-hit country, has 8,288,278 cases. It is followed by India, which has 7,430,635 cases, Brazil (5,201,570) and Russia (1,369,313).
