India Vs England: England takes 1-0 series lead

England now leads the four-test series 1-0. This is a superb win for England, as India loses a Test at home for the first time since 2017.

India slipped to the No.4 spot in ICC World Test Championship and England climb to the top of the World Test Championship standings after Chennai win.

England set India a 420-run target after scoring 178 runs in its second innings. The visitors had scored 578 runs in the first innings thanks to Joe Root’s 218, while India made 337. England and their captain Joe Root have been in prime form in Asia as they outclassed Sri Lanka 2-0 in Sri Lanka in a 2-Test series.

Virat Kohli top-scored with a fighting 72, opener Shubman Gill scored an elegant 50 but India struggled against James Anderson’s (3/17) reverse-swing mastery, while left-arm spinner Jack Leach (4/76) ran through the lower order.
