India reports 9,110 new COVID-19 cases

India reports 9,110 new Covid-19 cases, 14,016 discharges, and 78 deaths in the last 24 hours, as per Union health ministry.

The total cases in the country now stands at 1,08,47,304. Of these active cases are 1,43,625. The total discharges are 1,05,48,521. The death toll stands at 1,55,158. A total of 62,59,008 vaccinations have taken place in the country.

A total of 20,25,87,752 samples tested for Covid-19 up to February 8. Of these, 6,87,138 samples were tested on Monday, says Indian Council of Medical Research.

In Kerala a total of 187 students and 75 teachers in two schools in Malappuram district have tested positive for Covid-19.

Together, Kerala and Maharashtra accounted for 56,932 fresh cases in the past week, 71% of the total count in the country.

Meanwhile, after a gap of more than 10 months, students across Odisha, Rajasthan, and Bihar attended school on Monday, following strict Covid-19 guidelines.

President Biden spoke to PM Modi, committing that US and India will work closely together to win fight against Covid-19 pandemic, renew their partnership on climate change, rebuild the global economy in a way that benefits the people of both countries, according to a statement by the White House, Washington DC, ANI reports.

The leaders (PM Modi and President Biden) also agreed to continue close cooperation to promote a free and open Indo-Pacific, including support for freedom of navigation, territorial integrity and a stronger regional architecture through the Quad.
