India registers 8,635 new coronavirus cases

India reported 8,635 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the positive cases tally in the country to 1,07,66,245, according to the data released by the Union Health Ministry on Tuesday morning.

With 94 more deaths due to the infections, the total number of fatalities in the country has mounted to 1,54,486 .

There are a total of 1,63,353 active cases so far, while 1,04,48,406 people infected with the virus have been recovered and discharged.

On Monday, Delhi reported 121 fresh Covid-19 cases and a positivity rate of 0.28 per cent, authorities said. With three more people succumbing to the disease, the death toll mounted to 10,856. The total number of Covid-19 cases reported so far in Delhi has climbed to 6,35,217.

West Bengal on Monday reported 179 new Covid-19 cases, while six more people died, according to the health department. The state has so far reported 10,179 fatalities and 5,70,177 cases.

Meanwhile, a major decline in Covid-19 numbers was witnessed in Mumbai. On February 1, Mumbai recorded 328 new COVID-19 cases. The number of deaths recorded was 8. Total active Covid-19 patients reported in the city are 5,656. The recovery rate stands at 94 per cent.

No Covid-19 death has been reported in Odisha for a week now, even as 79 fresh cases pushed the tally to 3,35,151, a health department official said on Monday.

In Rajasthan, no fresh fatality was recorded due to the novel coronavirus on Monday, while 96 new cases were reported from the state, a bulletin stated.

As per health ministry’s data on Monday morning, India’s Covid-19 recovery rate has reached 97 per cent, one of the highest globally, the health ministry said, adding the country’s daily new deaths have fallen below the 120-mark with 118 fatalities were recorded in a day. On Tuesday as well, new deaths were recorded at 94 — below 120
