India crosses 98 lakh coronavirus cases with 30,005 new cases

India on Saturday reported 30,005 new coronavirus cases taking the country’s total to 98,26,775, as per the Union Health Ministry.

The death toll has mounted to 1,42,628 with 442 new deaths in the last 24 hours.

The total active cases in the country are at 3,59,819 after a decrease of 3,930 in the last 24 hours.

The total discharged cases stand at 93,24,328 with 33,494 new discharges in the last 24 hours.

While the active cases comprise 1.45% of the total cases, the recovery rate in India currently stands at 94.89%. On the other hand, the fatality rate in India is at 3.66%.

India has the second highest number of covid infections in the world after the United States. Maharashtra has the most number of cases – 18.72 lakh, followed by Karnataka (8.99 lakh), Andhra Pradesh (8.74 lakh), Tamil Nadu (7.96 lakh), Kerala (6.58 lakh and Delhi (6.03 lakh).

Punjab extended night curfew in all cities and town across the state till January 1. The decision to impose the night curfew (from 10pm to 5am) from December 1 to December 15 was taken amid an apprehension of a second wave of the coronavirus pandemic in the state. The state also imposed curb on gatherings.

Meanwhile, India tested 10,65,176 samples for coronavirus on Friday, that is, December 11. India has so far tested 15,26,399 samples so far, revealed Indian Council of Medical Research.
