How teaching can improve society

One of the huge problems that affect us is that we become critics of a given situation. We are very anxious to hear about a neighbour’s problem, to know about their difficulties, and the misfortune of people who we think are above us in the social strata.

We are very keen to criticise everyone the bad habits, the poor characters in our society. If we look at the people of our own social status, then we are always in competition with him/her to be better. If we examine the people above our social status we suspect them. We think, “Are these people capable of doing work or will they cheat us?” Looking at the people belonging to the social status below us, we think “Are they people without proper law, order, or commitment? We are always suspicious of people. We are never happy, we are suspicious of everyone, we fear them and almost end up in criticising everybody. So how can people be balanced?

If you study the Hindu Puranas, you will find that gods never reacted. They allowed people to become good and punished only when they thought that their behaviour was unbearable. They wouldn’t give them any more opportunities.

If we look at the modern society from this perspective, isn’t it strange that we are not willing to give people a chance or not allowing them to improve?

The biggest problem is that hatred rules our mind which is confused with fear. This confusion of the mind originates because of the social environment, social imbalances and the lack of justice. How did this fear originate?

Stress, anxiety and hatred originated in the classroom – where all of us had spent much of our time. The frustration, stress and tensions that our mind captures will result in hatred and depression. By the time we pass out of educational institutions, we will have become mentally unstable who are afraid to come up in life and are in fear of competition.

Thus, teachers should always instill in a child positive thoughts and confidence to face challenges in his/her life. Too much of positivity and negativity is both harmful for the future generation. There should be a balanced environment built around a child so that he/she can lead a fearless and happy life. 720 infected with COVID-19 on July 21 in Kerala
