From Rhea to Shine Tom Chacko: Five Indian celebrities arrested for drug usage

A few days back that the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty for alleged drug abuse charges. Upon interrogation, Rhea has apparently revealed the names of several top Bollywood celebrities who are involved in drug usage. Interestingly, the habit of drug usage is not just confined to Rhea. Several Indian celebrities have been arrested in the course of years for their involvement in drug rackets.

Sanjay Dutt

Sanjay Dutt is one of the most popular Superstars in India, and he was arrested for alleged drug usage in 1982. Following the arrest, the actor was sentenced to jail for a period of five months. Later, Sunil Dutt, Sanjay’s father sent him to a rehabilitation center in the United States.

The actor was recently diagnosed with lung cancer, and he is currently undergoing treatment at the Kokilaben Hospital.

Fardeen Khan

It was on May 05, 2001, that Fardeen Khan was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau for possessing cocaine. The actor was charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, but he claimed to have possessed only one gram of cocaine. It should be noted that less than two grams of cocaine is considered a small quantity, and if found guilty, the accused will face only a maximum jail term of six months.

During the hearing, Fardeen admitted that he had consumed drugs six to seven times to combat professional stress. Later, the actor was granted immunity in the case, as he successfully underwent a detoxification process.

Shine Tom Chacko

In 2015, popular Mollywood star Shine Tom Chacko, and four others were arrested for alleged possession of cocaine. After spending 59 days in jail, the actor finally succeeded in getting bail from the Kerala High Court.

Later, Shine Tom Chacko revealed that he has learned from his mistakes, and made it clear that he will be focussing only on his acting career.

Vijay Raaz

Vijay Raaz is considered one of the multi-talented personalities in the Indian film industry. However, the actor’s image among the general public faced a setback when he was arrested at the Dubai airport in 2005 with 25 grams of marijuana. The actor at that time was busy with the shooting of the movie Deewane Huye Paagal.

Mamta Kulkarni

In June 2016, the Thane Police named Mamta Kulkarni as a prime accused in supplying ephedrine for the illicit manufacture of methamphetamine. She was later caught in Kenya for her alleged involvement in the drug racket along with her husband Vicky Goswami.
