Five Tamil superstars who played hero and villain in their own movies

Pulling off a negative role on screen is not an easy task, especially for superstars who enjoy a huge fan following in states like Tamil Nadu, where actors enjoy the status of demigods. However, some Tamil superstars have played both hero and villain in their own movies.

The Gulf Indians presents you with the list of five Tamil superstars who set the screens on fire with their antagonist and protagonist roles in their own movies.

Iru Mughan

Chiyaan Vikram is known for doing experimental roles on screen, and in the movie ‘Iru Mughan’ directed by Anand Shankar, the actor played dual roles; Akhilan, an ex-RAW agent, and Love, a wanted criminal scientist.

The major highlight of Iru Mughan was high-voltage action sequences and Vikram’s portrayal of Love. However, the film, upon its release received mixed reviews and emerged as an average grosser at the box-office.

Aalavandhan

Aalavandhan is an experimental flick directed by Suresh Krishna. The film featured Kamal Haasan in dual roles. Aalavandhan portrayed the story of Nandu and Vijay, brothers who were abused by their stepmother during their younger days.

After many years, Nandu who is mentally unstable decides to kill Vijay’s fiancee, as he visualizes her as his stepmother.

Amid releasing with huge pre-release hype, Aalavandhan failed to impress the mass audiences and emerged as a flop at the box-office. However, after the television screening, the film gained a cult status.

Kaashmora

In the movie Kaashmora, Karthi played dual roles, as the protagonist Raj Nayak, and the antagonist Kaashmora. Karthi excelled in the role of Kaashmora, and it is considered as his career-best performance.

Directed by Gokul, the film received mixed reviews from audiences and emerged as a safe bet for the producer.

24

24 is a science fiction movie directed by Vikram Kumar that featured Nadipin Nayakan Suriya in dual roles. Narrating the concept of time travel, the film is considered one of the perfect movie in this genre made in the Indian film industry.

One of the major highlights of 24 was Suriya’s performance as Athreya, the lead antagonist. The film also helped Suriya to win the Critics Best Actor Award at the 64th Filmfare Awards.

The film also emerged as a blockbuster at the box-office, and it collected more than Rs 150 crores worldwide.

Enthiran

Shankar’s Enthiran is one of the best sci-fi films ever made in the Indian film industry. This movie starred Rajinikanth in dual roles; as Vaseegaran, a robotic scientist, and Chitti, a humanoid robot.

At one point in time, Chitti starts mastering emotions and finally ends up loving Vaseegaran’s girlfriend Sana. As Vaseegaran opposes, Chitti starts showing his villainous side. As the film became a huge hit at the box-office, a sequel named ‘2.0’ was released in 2018.
