Existence of human awareness during clinical death

NIRMAL YESODA

The phenomenon of death is a mysterious conundrum. Medical experts believe that a human life will end forever when the brain stops functioning. However, religious believers argue that humans continue their journey in a spiritual form even after saying Adios to the material world forever. A few years back, a study conducted by a top medical expert had suggested that humans will be aware of death, especially after cardiac arrests.

Will humans know when they die?

During this milestone research, Dr. Sam Parnia found that human consciousness will continue functioning for some time even after the heart stops beating. Parnia made this conclusion after analyzing several cardiac arrest cases in the United States and Europe.

According to the research conducted by Parnia, several survivors of cardiac arrest were aware of everything that happened around them when they were clinically dead, before being brought back to life. In some cases, the patients who were clinically dead even heard what the doctor was talking to his colleagues.

Mystery surrounding clinical death

In his study report, Parnia revealed that the cerebral cortex of the human brain will be active for three or four seconds even after death, and this is the reason why patients becoming aware of the happenings around them after their last breath.

“They’ll describe watching doctors and nurses working, they’ll describe having awareness of full conversations, of visual things that were going on, that would otherwise not be known to them,” Parnia told Live Science.

Medical experts believe that Parnia’s findings can be used to explain the phenomenon of near-death experience (NDE) where victims claimed to have seen their dead body while entering a different realm.
