Dubai: Etihad Airways has confirmed a significant order for 28 wide-body aircraft from Boeing, marking a major deal for the U.S. aerospace giant during President Donald Trump’s visit to three Gulf states.
The order includes a mix of Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 777X aircraft, all powered by GE engines and supported by a comprehensive services package. The new aircraft are expected to join Etihad’s fleet starting in 2028 and will contribute to the airline’s goals of expanding connectivity, enhancing operational efficiency, and elevating the guest experience.
“Since 2023, the airline has steadily grown its fleet as part of a long-term strategy to double in size by 2030,” Etihad said in an official statement.
“This commitment reflects our approach of carefully managing our fleet and expanding in line with demand and our long-term network plans,” said Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways. “This latest step ensures we continue to meet our future requirements.”
Etihad is currently finalizing a detailed strategic roadmap through to 2035. The additional Boeing aircraft will play a key role in this plan, helping the airline deliver world-class customer experiences while maintaining financial sustainability.
The deal comes at a time when speculation is growing around a potential initial public offering (IPO) for Etihad Airways. The airline’s recent financial performance has been strong, bolstered by strategic adjustments to its routes and fleet, positioning it favorably in the global aviation market.
