Electoral College makes it official-Joe Biden is the next President of US

The Electoral College gave Joe Biden a majority of its votes on December 14, confirming his victory in the United States Presidential Election happened on November.

Confirmation by the electoral college was one of the steps required for Mr.Biden to take office.

The Electoral College’s decision added importance this year because of President Donald Trump’s refusal to concede he lost.

California’s 55 electoral votes put Mr.Biden over the top, clearing the 270-vote mark that affirmed he will be the nation’s next President.

US President-elect Joe Biden called upon the country to “turn the page” in a victory speech after the electoral college voted to reaffirm his 2020 White House win.

He also went on to express rare anger and impatience with President Donald Trump and his allies’ “assault on democracy” for their refusal to acknowledge his defeat. He condemned President Donald Trump’s attempt to overturn the result.

Biden had been publicly patient with Trump’s constant efforts to question and overturn the election result. He gave the president time to come to terms with his defeat and also extended the same understanding to Republican lawmakers , a majority of whom have also not acknowledged Biden’s victory fearing Trump’s wrath.

Shortly after the vote, William Barr, the once loyal attorney general who later disputed Trump’s election fraud claims, quit.

After the Electoral College vote became clear in the evening, Trump announced the departure of Barr, who has publicly disputed Trump’s poll fraud claims, saying his department had found no evidence of irregularities of the scale that could change the outcome of the election.

Biden formally won 306 electoral college votes to Republican Donald Trump’s 232.
