Dubai : Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has achieved a significant milestone by completing all infrastructure works on the Bur Dubai side of the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project. This ambitious initiative, spanning 13 kilometers and encompassing 15 intersections, aims to enhance connectivity and reduce congestion across key areas such as Deira, Bur Dubai, Dubai Islands, Dubai Maritime City, and Port Rashid.
A pivotal component of this development is the opening of a new three-lane bridge linking Sheikh Rashid Road to the Infinity Bridge. This bridge, part of Phase 4 of the project, facilitates smoother traffic flow and is designed to accommodate up to 10,800 vehicles per hour in both directions. The completion of this phase marks a 71% progress milestone in the overall project.
The Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project is expected to dramatically reduce travel times along the corridor from 104 minutes to just 16 minutes by 2030. Additionally, the project is projected to yield economic benefits estimated at AED 45 billion over the next two decades due to reduced travel times and enhanced traffic efficiency.
Ongoing works include the construction of the Al Khaleej Street Tunnel, a 1,650-meter tunnel designed to facilitate free-flowing traffic between Deira and Bur Dubai, further enhancing the city’s transportation infrastructure.
This comprehensive upgrade underscores Dubai’s commitment to developing world-class infrastructure to support its rapid urban growth and to improve the quality of life for its residents and visitors.
