Dubai: RTA announces renaming of GGICO Metro Station

Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai on Friday announced the renaming of a Dubai Metro station in Dubai.

As per the announcement posted on social media, GGICO Metro Station’s name has been changed to Al Metro Garhoud Station.

The new name will come into effect from Monday.

“In line with our efforts to improve transportation services and updating our information for seamless experience for everyone, we would like to inform you that GGICO Metro Station has changed to Al Garhoud Station as of April 14, 2025. New name, same destination, maximum efficiency,” RTA said in its post on X.
The station on the Red Line named after GGICO (Gulf General Investment Company), a Dubai Financial Market-listed public shareholding company established in 1973, will now be known after its location, Al Garhoud.

The authority also shared a video to help Metro users locate the station on a map displaying the metro lines.

Second station in a month
This is the second time in one month that the RTA has announced the renaming of a Dubai Metro station.

Earlier in March, the RTA renamed Al Khail Metro Station to Al Fardan Exchange Metro Station. This followed the RTA signing an agreement granting Al Fardan Exchange the naming rights for Al Khail Metro Station.
Earlier this month, the RTA carried out extensive works to change the name boards and other signage in and around Dubai Metro stations.
According to the RTA, this work will continue for a couple more months.
“From April to the end of June 2025, the RTA will be updating and renaming the station names on the external as well as the indoor directional signages for all Metro Stations. The new name will also be updated on the digital smart systems and the RTA’s public transport apps, along with the onboard audio announcements before and at the time of arriving at the station,” the RTA had said
