Dubai Police reveal wide range of traffic violations recorded by AI-powered radars

Dubai: Dubai Police on Wednesday unveiled a detailed list of traffic violations that can be detected by radar systems using artificial intelligence (AI), along with the corresponding fines, vehicle impoundment periods, and black points.

The initiative is aimed at improving road safety and minimising traffic accidents across the emirate.

The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Research and Development Center at Dubai Police Headquarters, with key figures in attendance including Brigadier Issam Ibrahim Al Awar, Acting Deputy Director of the General Department of Traffic, and Brigadier Engineer Mohammad Ali Karam, Director of Traffic Technologies. Several senior officers and members of the media were also present.

During the briefing, officials highlighted several traffic violations monitored by advanced technical control systems.

Police explained the type of violations AI-powered radars can detect and also gave details of fines for each violation.

Speed limits

Exceeding the speed limit by more than 80km/h will result in a hefty Dh3,000 fine, a 60-day vehicle impoundment, and 23 black points on the driver’s license. A speed violation exceeding 60km/h incurs a fine of Dh2,000, a 20-day impoundment, and 12 black points.

Other speeding violations include fines of Dh1,000 for exceeding the speed limit by more than 50km/h, Dh700 for exceeding it by more than 40km/h, Dh600 for exceeding it by over 30km/h, and Dh300 for exceeding the limit by more than 20km/h.

Running red lights and lane violations

Running a red light carries a fine of Dh1,000, a 30-day vehicle impoundment, and 12 black points. In addition, drivers who fail to stay within designated lanes will be fined Dh400. For heavy vehicles that violate lane regulations, the fine increases to Dh1,500, with 12 black points.

Driving against traffic

Driving in the wrong direction incurs a fine of Dh600, a 7-day vehicle impoundment, and 4 black points. Improper use of the road shoulder results in a fine of Dh1,000, a 30-day impoundment, and 6 black points.

Seat belt and distracted driving

Failing to wear a seat belt will result in a fine of Dh400 and 4 black points. Drivers caught using their phones while driving face a fine of Dh800 and 4 black points. Additionally, vehicles with tinted windows that exceed legal limits will be fined Dh1,500.

Noise pollution, and pedestrian safety

Failing to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead results in a fine of Dh400 and 4 black points. Excessive vehicle noise carries a fine of Dh2,000 and 12 black points. Drivers who fail to give way to pedestrians at designated crossings will be fined Dh500 and receive 6 black points.

Wrong turns and expired licences

Making a turn in an unauthorised area leads to a fine of Dh500 and 4 black points. Similarly, driving with an expired license incurs the same fine and penalty. Stopping a vehicle in the middle of the road without valid justification results in a fine of Dh1,000 and 6 black points.

Additional violations for heavy vehicles

Heavy vehicles entering restricted areas will be fined Dh1,000 and given 4 black points. Stopping a vehicle in a way that blocks the movement of others will lead to a fine of Dh500.

This comprehensive framework of fines and penalties aims to enforce stricter traffic regulations and improve road safety across Dubai.
