Dubai Opera to open on Aug 1 for concerts

Four months after it closed doors as a safety measure due to COVID-19, the Dubai Opera is ready to welcome audience for concerts featuring Hussain Al Jassmi and Umm Kulthum’s hologram. The two singing sensations will perform from a repertoire of their most renowned tracks, and be joined by rising stars picked from children’s reality television show The Voice Kids.

Opened in 2016, Dubai Opera is a 2,000-seat, multi-format, performing arts centre, which is located within The Opera District in Downtown Dubai. All performances in the venue will run at limited capacity, with empty seats left between people and groups.

The new season will begin with the UAE’s own superstar, Hussain Al Jassmi. The Emirati singer will perform at an Eid charity concert on August 1, alongside Lebanese singer Yara. ‘Celebrate Giving’, the concert, is organised by pan-Arab broadcaster MBC, with all proceeds going towards the Unicef’s Reimagine Campaign in support of children affected by the pandemic.

The 36-year-old heartthrob, Hussain Al Jassmi is renowned for merging traditional Khaleeji and modern Arabic beats, taking Emirati pop music to a new level.

Dubai Opera Chief Executive, Jasper Hope, added: “It’s a great honour for us to welcome Hussain Al Jassmi as our first Arabic singer to perform on the Dubai Opera stage.

This concert will be followed by a virtual performance by legendary Egyptian diva Umm Kulthum to Dubai Opera. There will be four performances from August 6 to August 8.

Both events are running under the banner of the Dubai Summer Surprises festival.
