Dhofar leads, while Muscat sees a decline as Oman’s electricity production rises by 7.5% in 2024

Muscat: Preliminary figures released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information reflect a buoyant energy landscape in the Sultanate, with several governorates reporting notable gains.

Leading the way were the governorates of North and South Al Batinah and Al Dhahirah, whose combined output of 28,270 gigawatt hours marked a 6.2% rise over the previous year’s numbers. However, Muscat Governorate recorded a 6.7% dip in total production, reaching 512.1 gigawatt hours. Dhofar Governorate, on the other hand, posted an 11.5% upswing, touching 5,262.5 gigawatt hours.
Meanwhile, North and South Al Sharqiyah Governorates witnessed an 8.3% boost to 10,119.3 gigawatt hours, and Musandam Governorate registered a 6.6% increase to 475.7 gigawatt hours. Al Wusta Governorate saw a notable decline of 25.6%, producing 160.1 gigawatt hours during the same period.
Net electricity production—which comprises purchases by the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company and the Rural Areas Electricity Company—also mirrored the overall uptick, registering a 7% increase to reach 43,819.3 gigawatt hours by the end of November 2024.

In parallel, Oman’s total water production remained stable, inching up to 478,518,100 cubic meters, compared to 478,015,900 cubic meters during the same timeframe in 2023.
