The crescent moon of the month of Zul Hijjah 1441 AH was spotted in UAE skies on July 21, according to the International Astronomical Centre. The centre tweeted a picture of the crescent which was sighted at 11:30 am from the top of Jebel Hafeet in Al Ain.

Determining the start of the month would establish the dates of Eid Al Adha, which is celebrated on the 10th of the month. An official announcement is yet to be issued by authorities in UAE.

The festival is the most important of two main holidays in the Muslim world. It begins on the 10th day of Dhu Al Hijjah, which is the 12th and final month in the Islamic calendar. New months are declared after the crescent moon is officially sighted.
