COVID:19: 6,638 new positive cases on October 30

Kerala reported 6,638 new coronavirus positive cases after 53,981 tests on October 30. The state also registered 7,828 recoveries in the last 24 hours, the Health department informed in a press statement.

With 28 deaths being reported on this day, the state’s death toll has risen to 1457.

Of the new cases , 5,789 contracted the disease through contact. The source of infection of 700 among them is unknown. As many as 85 infected persons came from outside the state.

So far, the state reported 4,25,122 active cases, out of which 3,32,994 were cured. The remaining 92,128 patients are undergoing treatment. As many as 2,88,635 are under observation. Among them, 2,66,953 are in home/institutional quarantine while 21,682 are in hospitals. 2,621 were admitted to hospitals on October 30.

For the first time, Kerala replaced Maharashtra as the state with highest number of fresh cases over the past 10 days.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases are: Thrissur – 1096, Malappuram – 761, Kozhikode – 722, Ernakulam – 674, Alappuzha – 664, Thiruvananthapuram – 587, Kollam – 482, Palakkad – 482, Kottayam – 367, Kannur – 341, Pathanamthitta – 163, Kasaragod – 133, Wayanad – 90 and Idukki – 76.

The district-wise statistics of contact cases are: Thrissur – 1080, Malappuram – 723, Kozhikode – 698, Ernakulam – 457, Alappuzha – 629, Thiruvananthapuram – 460, Kollam – 474, Palakkad – 258, Kottayam – 360, Kannur – 251, Pathanamthitta – 131, Kasaragod – 129, Wayanad – 84 and Idukki – 55.

So far, 45,85,050 samples, including those collected from priority groups as part of sentinel surveillance, were sent for testing.

Six new covid hotspots were identified in the state on Friday while 10 regions were removed from the list. There are a total of 690 hotspots in the state.
