COVID-19: Single day spike of 52,050 fresh cases in India

India has reported 52,050 new covid-19 cases, taking the tally in the country to 18, 55,746.

Around 803 COVID-19 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours making the total death toll to 38,938.

According to the Union Health Ministry data, there are now 5,86,298 active cases across the country, while 12,30,509 patients have been discharged.

Almost five months after India recorded first COVID-19 case, the country crossed the one million mark of active cases on July 17.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-affected state as it has a total of 1,47,324 active cases and 15,842 deaths. A total of 4,50,196 coronavirus cases have been recorded in the state up to August 2, according to Union Ministry of Health.

Tamil Nadu witnessed 5,609 new COVID-19 cases and 109 death on August 3, taking total cases to 2,63,222 including 2,02,283 discharges and 4,241 deaths.

The total cases in Delhi have risen to 1,38,482 including 1,24,254 recovered/discharged/migrated cases and 4,021 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health.

Along with the number of covid-19 cases, the number of tests too have gone up in the country. On August 3, India recorded its highest single- day testing by conducting over 6.6lakh tests to diagnose Covid-19.

The total number of tests carried out in India has also crossed the two-crore mark, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

The covid-19 recovery rate stands at 65.77 percent in the country, while the fatality rate is at 2.11 percent.

India continues to improve the Case Fatality Rate(CFR) and it is one of the lowest Covid-19 fatalities recorded globally.
