COVID-19 confirmed in 7,354 in Kerala on Sept. 29; 3,420 cured

A total of 7,354 COVID-19 cases were reported in Kerala on September 29. Of these 7,036 persons were infected through contact and the source of infection for 672 was not traceable. There are 130 healthcare workers among those infected. At the same time, 3,420 patients have recovered from the disease, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said.

Meanwhile, 22 deaths were confirmed as caused by COVID-19 taking the death toll in the State to 719. The deceased are Raveendran (61) and Vikraman (70) from Thiruvananthapuram district; Kunjumon Daniel (55), Muraleedharan Pillai (62) and Aisha Beevi (80) from Kollam district, Saramma (75) and K K Raja (53) from Kottayam district; Kunjumon (72), Kumaran (78) and Jaya (57) from Thrissur district; Joy (64), Fathima (63), Aboobacker (67) and Muhammad (77) from Malappuram district, Shekharan (79) and Dasan (62) from Palakkad district; A K Kunjali (73), Kunjalima (60), Kunjikannan (65), R V Narayanan (70) and Jameela (66) from Kannur district, and Majeed (51), a BSF personnel from Kodag, Karnataka posted in Kerala.

The district-wise count of the new active cases were Malappuram 1,040, Thiruvananthapuram 935, Ernakulam 859, Kozhikode 837, Kollam 583, Alappuzha 524, Thrissur 484, Kasargod 453, Kannur 432, Palakkad 374, Kottayam 336, Pathanamthitta 271, Wayanad 169 and Idukki 57. Of those diagnosed today, 58 have arrived from foreign countries and 130 from other States.

The numbers of the locally transmitted cases from the districts were Malappuram 1,024, Thiruvananthapuram 898, Ernakulam 843, Kozhikode 827, Kollam 566, Alappuzha 499, Thrissur 476, Kasaragod 400, Kannur 387, Palakkad 365, Kottayam 324, Pathanamthitta 224, Wayanad 157 and Idukki 46.

The infected healthcare workers from the districts are Kannur 32, Thiruvananthapuram 30, Kasaragod 24, Ernakulam 10; Alappuzha, Thrissur and Wayanad five each; Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Malappuram four each, Kollam three, and Palakkad and Kozhikode two each.

The district-wise figures for the patients who tested negative were Thiruvananthapuram 433, Kollam 262, Pathanamthitta 137, Alappuzha 273, Kottayam 157, Idukki 84, Ernakulam 216, Thrissur 236, Palakkad 269, Malappuram 519, Kozhikode 465, Wayanad 53, Kannur 197 and Kasaragod 119.
There are 61,791 patients presently undergoing treatment in the State while 1,24,688 people have so far been cured of Coronavirus.

There are a total of 2,36,960 people under observation in various districts of the State, 2,08,258 under home or institutional quarantine and 28,702 in hospitals. 2,906 persons were hospitalised on the day.

A total of 52,755 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. Till now, a total of 28,62,094 samples have been sent for testing, including 2,03,323 samples from priority groups, as part of Sentinel Surveillance.

There are 661 hotspots in Kerala now with 10 places demarcated on September 29.
