COVID-19 cases reach all-time high in Kerala on Oct.10

With over 11,000 people confirmed with COVID-19 in Kerala on October 10, the State recorded its highest-ever tally on the day. The infection was confirmed on 11,755 people. Of this, 10.471 got the infection through contact while the deaths of 23 people were confirmed as due to COVID-19. A total of 95,918 people were under treatment.

The worst affected districts were Malappuram 1,632, Kozhikode 1,324, Thiruvananthapuram 1,310, Thrissur 1,208, Ernakulam 1,191, Kollam 1,107, Alappuzha 843, Kannur 727, Palakkad 677, Kasaragod 539, Kottayam 523, Pathanamthitta 348, Wayanad 187 and Idukki 139.

Those whose deaths have been confirmed due to COVID-19 were Aisha Beevi (51) from Poovachal, Thiruvananthapuram, SP Nathan (79) from Manakkad, Abdul Hasan Hameed (70) from Kuruvilpuram, Parukutty (82) from Kovalam, Sainulabdeen (60) from Peroorkada, Peter (63) from Valiyaveli, Mohammad Shanavas (47) from Poovachal, Krishnamma (76) from Pettah, Sumathi (61) from Thirumala, Vijayan (76) from Kollam, George Kutty (53) from Anchal, Josy (77) from Moolamkuzhi, Ernakulam, Nabeesa (78) from Thopumpady, Pathumma Ali (86) from Nezhipuram and K.P. Prakashan (64) from Vennala, KG.Thomas (64) from Vallarpadam, and MK. Muhammad (97) from Perumbavoor, Satyabhama (55) from Chendamangalam, Sheela Peter (67) from Kadavanthra, Papayamma (50) from Attappadi, Palakkad, Beeru (65) from Ponnani, Malappuram, Priyesh (39) from Karakandi, Kannur and Aboobacker (85) from Thayil. This brings the total death toll to 978. Further deaths will be confirmed after NIV testing in Alappuzha.

Forty of those diagnosed with the disease were from foreign countries and 169 from other States. A total of 10,471 people were infected through contact. Contact source for 952 was not clear.
A total of 116 health workers were infected through contact. The test results of 7,570 people who were diagnosed and treated were negative. There were currently 2,80,387 people under surveillance in various districts of the State. Of these, 2,51,714 were under home / institutional quarantine and 28,673 in hospitals. A total of 3888 people were admitted to hospitals.

During the last 24 hours, 66,228 samples were tested. A total of 34,38,678 samples have so far been sent for testing, including routine samples, Airport Surveillance, Pooled Sentinel, CBNAT, Trunat, CLIA and Antigen Assay. As part of Sentinel Surveillance, 2,12,688 samples were sent for testing from priority groups such as health workers, guest workers, and individuals with greater social contact.

There were now 11 new hotspots and 40 areas have been excluded from the hotspot. With this, there are a total of 665 hotspots.
