Coronavirus scare peaks as Italy records 1,000 daily cases for first time since May

Italy was one of the worst affected countries that faced the wrath of the coronavirus outbreak in the initial days. The country had recorded more than 35,000 deaths in March and April, but by May, Italy successfully flattened the coronavirus curve. But now, coronavirus scare has once again started looming up, Italy’s health ministry on Saturday reported 1,071 new coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours.

This is for the first time that the country is recording more than 1,000 daily cases since May when the government eased strict lockdown measures. The last time more than 1,000 daily cases recorded in Italy was on May 12, when 1,402 cases were reported.

According to the latest statistics, the coronavirus positive cases in the country has started surging over the past one month. Experts believe that people have started gathering together for holidays and nightlife in last month, and this rising trend has now resulted in the increased positive cases.

Even though the number of coronavirus cases in the country continues to surge, the death tally in Italy is still in single figures. On Saturday, three people died due to coronavirus infection, while nine and six people lost their lives on Friday and Thursday respectively.

It was in Lazio that most numbers of coronavirus cases were reported on Saturday. On Saturday alone, 215 people were tested positive for COVID-19. The region’s health chief revealed that 60 percent of the people infected were the ones who came back from holidays in other parts of Italy and abroad.

The coronavirus that apparently originated from Wuhan, China is now spreading chaos in all nooks of the planet. According to the latest statistics, there are more than 23 million positive cases in the globe, and the death toll has already crossed 8,08,000.
