Congress notice to Jakhar, Thomas for ‘anti-party activities’

NEW DELHI: The Congress disciplinary committee on Monday showcaused senior leaders Sunil Jakhar of Punjab and KV Thomas of Kerala, amid pressure from state units that the two be expelled for anti-party activities. They have been asked to reply within a week.
While Jakhar has attracted the anger of Punjab Congress for his comments against former CM Charanjit Channi, his remarks were also perceived as anti-Dalit by partymen. Former minister Raj Kumar Verka demanded that he be expelled from Congress and AICC incharge Harish Chaudhary wrote to the party for action.

Congress had barred its leaders from attending the event and after much controversy, MP Shashi Tharoor, who . was also an invitee, announced that he will not go to the seminar. Kerala Congress chief K Sudhakaran has demanded that Thomas be expelled.
Tariq Anwar, a member of the panel, said, “If the reply is not found satisfactory, action will be taken against them.”
