The app named Bars will allow users to post and share videos of them rapping over beats that are provided by the app itself. Bars has been developed by Facebook’s New Product Experimentation (NPE) R&D team.

The app is currently available for beta testers. The BARS app provides tools to rappers to create music and they do not require any special skills to record rap video.

Facebook in its blog said that BARS will make it easier for budding rappers to produce rap music without spending a lot of money on the equipment and production. It is a known fact that audio production tools are quite expensive and creating music can be quite tedious but BARS already has pre-loaded beats.

“With BARS, you can select one of our professionally-created beats, write lyrics and record yourself dropping bars. BARS auto-suggests rhymes as you’re writing to keep your flow going. You can also jump into Challenge mode and freestyle with auto-suggested word cues. Choose from a variety of audio and visual filters to take your creations to the next level.No formal rap experience required — you can create something great whether you’ve just thought of a dope couplet or have been freestyling for years,” Facebook said in the blog.

After creating Rap videos, you can also save the videos to your camera roll and share them on other social media platforms. For now, only a small number of iOS users can download the app in the United States. Interested users can also sign up for the waitlist in the app.

The tech giant shipped nearly 80 million units in the quarter, surpassing all other smartphone makers, including Samsung. It’s the first time Apple has been atop the smartphone market since 2016, the report said.

The company’s family of iPhone 12 devices, with 5G capability and a new external design, is a hit in the marketplace. Interestingly some of those devices weren’t even on sale for the entire period.

The numbers also indicate Apple has endured the coronavirus pandemic better than its competitors.

A report from IDC released last month showed Apple shipped 90.1 million phones in the quarter. In terms of smartphone shipments, that’s the single best quarter for any company, IDC’s report said.

Global smartphone shipments fell 5.4% in 2020 amid the global coronavirus pandemic, while Apple’s unit sales grew by 3.3%. Samsung still shipped the most devices over a full year.

The biggest shipments decline came from Huawei, which saw unit sales drop by 24.1% in 2020, as the Chinese smartphone maker struggles with United States sanctions that have hampered its handset business. According to Gartner, Samsung doesn’t face the same challenge but still saw shipments fall 14.6% last year.

The talks, initiated by Japan’s SoftBank, are currently in the initial phase, according to people familiar with the matter, as cited by Bloomberg.

Glance’s parent company, mobile advertising technology firm InMobi, also operates video-sharing social media platform Roposo, which has boomed in India after the South Asian nation introduced a ban on using TikTok last July. SoftBank is reportedly a backer of InMobi as well as of TikTok’s Chinese parent, ByteDance.

However, an official confirmation about the recent developments is yet to come.

The step comes just months after India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information imposed a permanent ban on TikTok and 58 other Chinese apps, extending restrictions introduced last June over compliance and privacy concerns.

In response, ByteDance reduced the size of its team in India, where the corporation had employed more than 2,000 people. Beijing, in turn, accused India of violating basic market principles and the rules of the World Trade Organization.

Diplomatic and economic ties between the two Asian powers have worsened after 20 Indian soldiers including their commanding officer were martyred in a military clash with Chinese troops in the Himalayas in June. Since then, a “Boycott China” sentiment has spread across Indian social media.

According to the report, the Indian government will insist that the user data and technology of TikTok stay within its borders if the talks progress.

Facebook plans to sell the smartwatch at close to its production cost, which is also what it does with the Oculus headset. There’s no word on what pricing will be, but competing products range in price from $150 to $400+.

Facebook is also working on branded Ray-Ban smart glasses to be released later this year and a separate augmented reality research initiative known as Project Aria.

MapmyIndia CEO and Executive Director, Rohan Verma said that both the organisations would come with an India made mapping portal and geospatial services. He went on to add that the collaboration will boost Aatmanirbhar Bharat, which will mean that users in India in future can rely on a country made solution and not a service designed outside India. “You don’t need Goo*le Maps/Earth any longer”, Verma in a LinkedIn post.

On Friday, a PTI report confirmed that the Department of Space (DoS), under which ISRO comes, signed an MoU with geospatial technology company CE Info Systems Pvt Ltd, which MapmyIndia owns.

As part of the deal, ISRO and MapmyIndia would develop solutions by leveraging their geoportals and work on enhancing geospatial expertise.

Elaborating about the partnership, ISRO in a statement said, “The collaboration will enable them to jointly identify and build holistic geospatial solutions utilising the earth observation datasets, “NavIC”, Web Services and APIs (application programming interface) available in MapmyIndia, “Bhuvan”, “VEDAS” and “MOSDAC” geoportals.”

The space agency confirmed that R Umamaheswaran, Scientific Secretary, ISRO, signed the MoU on behalf of DOS and Rakesh Verma, CMD, CE Info Systems Pvt Ltd signed from the company side.

ISRO has already developed NavIC (also called Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System or IRNSS) which is Navigation with Indian Constellation, an India made navigation system.

“Through the combined partnership with ISRO, MapmyIndia’s end-user maps, apps and services will now integrate with ISRO’s huge catalogue of satellite imagery and earth observation data and would be a much better, more detailed and comprehensive, as well as privacy-centric, hyper-local and indigenous mapping solution for Indians, compared to foreign map apps and solutions. Users will be able to see in MapmyIndia’s maps and services, all of India from a bird’s eye point of view, and also benefit hugely from the various map-based analytics and insights about the weather, pollution, agricultural output, land-use changes, flood and landslide disasters etc.,” Verma talked about the partnership in a lengthy post on LinkedIn.

A week back, FAU-G had crossed over 4 million pre-registrations on Google Play and hopes to achieve 5 million pre-registrations. nCore Games says that no other game in India has crossed 5 million pre-registrations to date.

In a strongly worded letter to WhatsApp CEO Will Cathcart, India’s Ministry of Information and Technology (MEITY) said India is home to the largest users base of WhatsApp globally and is one of the biggest marketers for its services.

The letter notes that sharing of some data — including business data — generated with WhatsApp with Facebook will weaken the information security of the users.

One of the key objections raised by the MEITY is the non-voluntary nature of the new policy. Users will have to accept it or else they will not be able to use WhatsApp, and MEITY says that this lack of choice is unfair to users.

The letter also reminds WhatsApp of the Indian Supreme Court judgment on privacy delivered in 2017 and the proposed data protection law. It notes that in this context, WhatsApp coming out with a policy that allows for more data exchange between Facebook and WhatsApp is untenable because the proposed bill allows collection and usage of data for only specific services, and that data collected from one service cannot be used in another service.

In a series of tweets, the Facebook-owned messaging app confirmed it is pushing back the date from February 2021 to May, for now.

“Thank you to everyone who’s reached out. We’re still working to counter any confusion by communicating directly with WhatsApp users,” the company tweeted late on Friday (January 15).

“No one will have their account suspended or deleted on February 8, and we’ll be moving back our business plans until after May,” it said.

Whatsapp also published a blog post titled “Giving More Time for Our Recent Update” where it claimed that it would be giving everyone more time to understand the changes.

“We’ve heard from so many people how much confusion there is around our recent update. There’s been a lot of misinformation causing concern, and we want to help everyone understand our principles and the facts,” the company wrote.

“WhatsApp was built on a simple idea: what you share with your friends and family stays between you. This means we will always protect your personal conversations with end-to-end encryption so that neither WhatsApp nor Facebook can see these private messages. It’s why we don’t keep logs of who everyone’s messaging or calling. We also can’t see your shared location, and we don’t share your contacts with Facebook,” it said.

After explaining its reservations, the company said, “We’re now moving back the date on which people will be asked to review and accept the terms. No one will have their account suspended or deleted on February 8.”

“We’re also going to do a lot more to clear up the misinformation around how privacy and security work on

WhatsApp. We’ll then go to people gradually to review the policy at their own pace before new business options are available on May 15.”

The last 10 days have seen WhatsApp mired in a wave of controversy regarding privacy and user data. The company told users to accept certain terms and conditions or face deletion of their account.

WhatsApp rivals like Signal and Telegram have seen a massive surge in downloads and installs. Both the platform claim to be more secure than WhatsApp. WhatsApp has maintained that chats will remain secure and no one will see them. He also said Signal was working to improve its video and group chat functions, making it a better user-friendly messaging app than WhatsApp, Microsoft Teams, and other conferencing apps.

Signal was downloaded by 17.8 million users over the past seven days. WhatsApp was downloaded by 10.6 million users during the same period, a 17% decline.

The National E-Governance Division of Ministry of Electronics and IT has invited proposals to build the conversational platform that can be deployed on the UMANG platform , which hosts various apps that provide government services to citizens.

According to the document obtained by PTI, the government is looking for a platform that provide assistance with general such as availing services of government and those available on the UMANG platform such as registration , login, reset the password, department service relation information, event, and new launch. The chatbox is expected to turn speech into a textual input and turn text into speech.

The platform also have other deep learning capabilities, which can be used by platforms for discovery and recommendation of eligible schemes and services to the users of bots/ applications. It would take the project four years to complete.

Apple is now probing whether there was a disparity in wages agreed and paid to the staff that led to the violent incident at the facility. The company will also investigate whether the employees were paid for the extra hours and wether they were paid as per the company guidelines.

Wistron had earlier announced that it would be India vice president Vincent Lee who oversees its unit in India. “Since the unfortunate events at our Narasapura facility we have been investigating and have found that some workers were not paid correctly, or on time. We deeply regret this and apologize to all of our workers,” Wistron had said in a statement.

“Our top priority is to ensure all workers are fully compensated immediately and we are working hard to achieve that. We have established an employee assistance program for workers at the facility. We also set up a 24-hour grievance hotline in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, and English to ensure all workers can voice any concerns they may have anonymously,” the statement further read.

Announcing the new feature, Twitter wrote, “Giving context on why a labeled Tweet is misleading under our election, COVID-19, and synthetic and manipulated media rules is vital. These prompts helped decrease Quote Tweets of misleading information by 29% so we’re expanding them to show when you tap to like a labelled Tweet.” Twitter aims to reduce the likes and retweets of a tweet carrying misleading information.

Twitter unveiled a new feature called Topics for Indian users a few days ago. The feature was launched to make it easier for Indian users to interact, find, follow the things they love. Twitter in its blog had stated that the new feature allows people to get more tweets, posts from the topic of their interest in their feed. Topics also allow users to connect with followers with similar interests and have discussions about their favorite topics. This way they can also expand the reach of their profile and get more visible. The Topics are available in Hindi and English language both.

To make use of the feature, users have to enable it by tapping on a contact’s name. The disappearing message option if turned on will delete the messages after seven days.

Announcing the feature, Whats App wrote in its blog, “We’re starting with 7 days because we think it offers peace of mind that conversations aren’t permanent, while remaining practical so you don’t forget what you were chatting about. The shopping list or store address you received a few days ago will be there while you need it, and then disappear after you don’t.”

The feature will be rolling out to users everywhere this month and both the Android and iOS users will get the new feature.

Disappearing messages will also wipe out photos and videos after seven days, and while messages will disappear for both parties it’s still possible to take screenshots or just simply copy messages before they’re automatically deleted.

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Poco has launched its new mid-range phone named M2 on Tuesday. The device will be available from September 15, and the company offers three color options that include slate blue, pitch black and brick red color for these gadgets.

According to reports, there will be two variants of these smartphones available for buyers. The base variant is priced at Rs 10,999, and it comes with MediaTek Helio G80 octa-core processor and 6GB RAM. The internal storage of these smartphones will be 64GB. However, the high-end variant which is priced at Rs 12,499 will offer internal storage of 128GB.

Both these variants will feature an impeccable 6.53-inch Full HD+ display. The screen will offer a resolution of 2340×1080 and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9.

These smartphones are equipped with a 13MP primary sensor, 8MP ultra-wide sensor, 5MP macro sensor, and a 2MP depth sensor. The device also houses an 8MP selfie camera with night mode.

According to a statement issued by Poco, the 8MP ultra-wide camera will allow the users to significantly expand their view, while the 5MP macro sensor will help to take stunning close-up shots.

The journey of Moto G9 in the Indian market will not be that smooth, as the budget smartphone space in the country is dominated by brands such as Mi, Oppo, Vivo, and Samsung.

Moto G9 will have a 6.5-inch HD+ display that offers a pixel ratio of 1600×720. The smartphone also has a Corning Gorilla Glass 3, which will help it withstand falls and scratches. The rear camera of Moto G9 is equipped with a 48MP primary sensor, along with two 2MP units for depth assistance and macro photography. An 8MP front camera which also supports face unlock is another major highlight of this device.

Moto G9 also has a physical fingerprint sensor at the rear side of the gadget. The smartphone is powered with Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor. The phone has 4GB RAM, and it will have 64 GB of internal storage. There is also a microSD slot that can be expanded up to 512 GB.

According to reports, Motorola will offer two color variants; Forest Green and Sapphire Blue to customers. The phone will be available on sale on Flipkart from 12 PM, on August 31.

In the market, Motorola Moto G9 will lock horns with Redmi Note 9, and Samsung Galaxy M21.

Even though the launch of iPhone 12 is yet to be officially announced by Apple, the company has already hired 2,000 locals to work in their Karnataka facility in Kolar district, Business Standard reported. The company plans to hire 8,000 employees more before the launch of the operations.

The hiring process is now going on in a phased manner, and as of now, walk-in interviews of diploma candidates have been conducted. More interviews with experienced professionals are expected to take place soon in Kolar.

According to reports, Wistron has planned to invest more than Rs.2,900 crores to ramp up the production of iPhone parts in India.

Several previous reports have stated that Wistron’s South Indian unit will manufacture printed circuit boards (PCBs) for iPhones, It should be noted that PCB is a bed for vital components like processors, memory, and wireless chipsets, and once assembled, it accounts for about half the cost of a smartphone.
