He composed music for “Kadhalikka Neramillai” and the upcoming “Chhaava”. He is also involved in Mani Ratnam’s “Thug Life”, starring Kamal Haasan, slated for release on June 10. Other projects in the pipeline include “Lahore 1947,” “Tere Ishq Mein,” “Ramayana,” and “RC 16”.

Fans await further updates
As the news spreads, fans and well-wishers have flooded social media with prayers and messages of support for the composer. While no official statement has been released by his family or management, the industry is hopeful for his swift recovery.

Further updates on his health are awaited.

New Delhi: Renowned Indian tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain passed away at the age of 73 in a San Francisco hospital, his family confirmed on Monday, according to a PTI report.

Hussain succumbed to complications from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis after being hospitalized for two weeks and later moved to the ICU.
In a statement, his family said, “He leaves behind an extraordinary legacy cherished by countless music lovers around the globe, with an influence that will resonate for generations to come.”

Hussain’s manager, Nirmala Bachani, stated that the maestro had been dealing with blood pressure-related issues.
Earlier reports of Hussain’s death had surfaced, prompting his sister, Khursheed, to inform PTI that while he was “very, very critical,” he was “still breathing at the moment.” The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had initially announced his passing on social media but later deleted the statement.
Hailed as the greatest tabla virtuoso of his generation, Zakir Hussain was born on March 9, 1951, and was the son of legendary tabla maestro Ustad Alla Rakha. He is survived by his wife, Antonia Minnecola, and daughters, Anisa and Isabella Qureshi.
Hussain’s illustrious career earned him four Grammy Awards, including three at the 66th Grammy Awards earlier this year. His award-winning work on Pashto was recognised in the ‘Best Global Music Performance’ category.

The maestro recently announced the As We Speak India tour with fellow Grammy winners Béla Fleck, Edgar Meyer, and Rakesh Chaurasia, scheduled for January 2025. Organized by Perfect Harmony Productions and Panache Media, the multi-city tour was set to feature performances in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and New Delhi.

Hussain’s unparalleled contributions to global music and his extraordinary ability to blend Indian classical rhythms with global influences have left an indelible mark on the world of music.

Kamar Hila slowly lights up the fire within and has been one of the most awaited music videos of the year to make this hot month hotter. Composer Babli Haque and Meera Sarkar have got us all vibe with the music. The video is produced by Nidhi Poddar, Meera Sarkar and Babli Haque.

When words fail, music speaks! But Sushant Pujari and Lopa Mudra Raut’s hot performance is making the music visible and would leave you flaunting your ‘ kamar ‘ moves to the best under the direction of Jasmeen Oza.. This song has been beautifully sung by Nakash Aziz and Sheena Thakur.

A party song more to dance than just drink also, ‘ Kamar Hila’ is a joyful music to celebrate every moment of your miserable life.

Meera Sarkar and Babli Haque own Limeera Media & Entertainment. Both have worked with most of the renowned names in the entertainment industry namely Randeep Hooda, Arbaaz Khan, Kajal Agarwal, Nawazzudin for Manto, Abhay Deol and so on. Their journey has been fruitful after ‘ Kamar Hila ‘ has gained so much love. Soon they are coming up with a Bengali song too.

Babli Haque, Co Partner and founder of Limeera Media & Entertainment, said, “Kamar Hila is a Dance number. For all the music lovers, we have precisely maintained our genre to be light groovy yet heavy enough to lift anybody up. The way the music moves and elevates the energy is the motive we had during the making.”

Meera Sarkar, Co Partner and founder of Limeera Media & Entertainment said, “Being Indian the first move we throw is obviously a thumka so we are encouraging everyone to moves Kamar Hila K!! Talking about moves Sushant and Lopa has stupendously did justice to our music. We hope everyone likes it and looking forward to make it the Most Played probably. Cheers!’’

A R Rahman is not just a musician. He is a school of music. The son of a band composer for Tamil and Malayalam films, legendary musician A R Rahman celebrates his birthday on January 6.

The musician, who turns 54 this year, dropped out of school due to the untimely death of his father, and later entered the world of music.

His birth name was Dilip Kumar, he later changed it to Rahman after converting to Islam. Some of his best work happened when he collaborated with ace director Mani Ratnam. He made his debut by composing for Mani Ratnam’s Roja in 1992, bagging several awards for the same.

The soundtrack of Bombay created by Rahman, which is also Mani Ratnam directorial, was used in Deepa Mehta ‘Fire’, featured in Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage’s 2005 film ‘Lord of War’. His songs “Yaro Yarodi”, “Swasame”, “Rang De” had been used in the crazy love story of Uma Thurman and Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s ‘The Accidental Husband”. The track ‘Chaiya Chaiya’ is used in the intro of the movie ‘Inside Man’

We do know about ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, which gave him the Oscars. However the Grammy award winner had scored music for other international projects. On his occasion of his birthday , here are 10 international films the music maestro worked .

1.Warriors of Heaven and Earth(2003)

This is a Chinese film directed by He Ping. It was Rahman’s first international foray and he scored 14 songs and film’s theme music. This movie was China’s official entry to the Oscars that year.

2.Provoked(2006)

This British film had Bollywood actor Aishwarya Rai in the lead role. The film revolved around the theme of domestic violence and sexual abuse. Rahman’s music was unique and haunting at the same time.

3.Elizabeth : The Golden Age( 2007)

Shekhar Kapur directed the film which had Cate Blanchett, Clive Owen, Geoffrey Rush as cast. A R Rahman scored 20 songs including the theme music. However, Scottish music producer Craig Armstrong was brought into the project and re-did almost all of the songs in the film, which Shekhar Kapur later revealed that he regretted the decision.

4.Couples Retreat(2009)

This film didn’t perform well both commercially and critically . Unfortunately Rahman’s music really did not stand out in this mess of a film.

5.127 Hours( 2010)

A R Rahman once again united with Slumdog Billionaire’s director Danny Boyle and created 14 tracks for the film. It was well received and nominated for an Academy Award yet again. However he did not win the gold.

6.People Like Us(2012)

A slice-of-life movie, which starred Chris Pine and Elizabeth Banks in lead roles. The film bombed at the box office, but Rahman’s music stood out.

7.Million Dollar Arm(2014)

This film, directed by Craig Gillespie, was based on a real life reality show of the same name, in which an American baseball scout makes his way to India, to find the next great pitcher. Rahman’s music was appreciated, even if it did not reach Slumdog-level popularity.

8. The Hundred Foot Journey (2014)

This American film had Helen Mirren, Om Puri, and Charlotte Le Bon in lead roles. The film was about two rival families, one India and one French, whose young kids fall in love with each other. Rahman’s score had 16 tracks and they were generally praised.

9. Muhammed: The Messenger of God (2015)

This is the movie from ace director Majid Majidi. A trivia about the movie is that Rahman took almost six months to understand the kind of music that Majidi wanted for the project. The film had 20 tracks that had a heavy Persian influence.

10.Viceroy’s House( 2017)

This Gurinder Chadha-directed film was based on the political muscling that was happening during India’s independence and subsequent partition. It had Huma Qureshi in the lead role. The film sank without a trace, and so did the music.

Blinded by the light (2019)

This is a critically acclaimed British comedy- drama directed by Gurinder Chadha. This coming-age-of-story revolves around Javed, a British-Pakistani Muslim teenager whose life changed after he happened to listen to music of Bruce Springsteen.

AR Rahman shared a photo of mother Kareema Begum on Twitter and Instagram.

Condolences poured in as soon as the music maestro shared the photo. Director Mohan Raja wrote, “Our deepest condolences sir May her Soul Rest In Peace (sic).”

AR Rahman was quite close to his mother. In an old interview, he had said that his mother has musically inclined and that she is much higher than him in spiritually. In fact, his mother was the one who encouraged him to take up music.

On the work front, AR Rahman composed music for all the eight songs in Mukesh Chhabra’s Dil Bechara. The composer gave a musical tribute to Sushant Singh Rajput before the film’s release. Upcoming films that will have his music are Atrangi Re, Mimi, Cobra and 99 Songs.

There is a musical war at home between the in-house teens – the daughter who has become a BTS fan in recent times influenced by her friends’ craze for the Korean pop group and the son who swears by the EDM (electronic dance music) genre and Dutch music producer Martin Garrix. So he spends much of his time making music. I let him, thinking I should not belittle the works of a future A.R. Rahman or Resul Pookutty.

Like many boys, the EDM fan pooh-poohs the Korean music and says the singers sound constipated, especially while belting out high-pitched numbers. My doubts were initially more basic – are they girls or clones – but I am beginning to like their music. The girl teen labels us racist for our unwillingness to appreciate East Asian musicians.

I am baffled by the fascination among young girls for BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan or Bangtan Boys) and everything (south) Korean. That includes Korean drama on Netflix, Korean language, Korean food and a South Korea trip in the distant future.

The seven-member boy band has a cult following among teens and tweens, be it in India or in the UAE, like Harry Potter in his heydays. So each girl has what they call a “bias” or a favourite singer – my teen has decided on Jimin while her best friends have picked on Jungkook and Suga. Jimin, she says, is kind going by his videos though Jungkook is reportedly the most popular of the seven. Suga, she feels, makes “savage” jokes while Jin is sassy and funny. When a teen says savage, it doesn’t mean wild or untamed but highly witty. To be a true-blue fan, one has to love the entire team – J-Hope, Jin, RM, and V complete the BTS septet. Except for Jimin and Jungkook, the rest have adopted stage names.

Shops selling BTS merchandise, which apparently are overpriced outside Korea, have sprouted in malls and online souqs. One strange accessory or item on the wishlist of a BTS fan is an army bomb or a BTS official light stick, which is a concert lamp that looks like a small torch. Each fan holding a light bomb at a concert is a star, and the whole auditorium becomes a star-lit sky when fans jam to the music. The BTS galaxy is reportedly the biggest while the fandoms of all-girl band BlackPink and boy band EXO are also very huge. BTS fans are called ARMY (Adorable Representative MC for Youth, where MC stands for master of ceremonies), while BlackPink fans are called Blink, enlightens the in-house fan. And language is no barrier for a die-hard fan to learn the BTS fan chant, which involves reciting the band members’ real names in a particular order.

For a 15-year-old girl like Ariell, the appeal of BTS is not just “their music, synchronised dance moves, but their personalities and constant communication with fans; personality-wise, they are funny, witty, thoughtful and great people”. Saniya, another young fan, vouches that BTS taught her “to love herself instead of loving others first, to continue living, and become a strong and self-confident person”. Most importantly, they aver, some have been cured of depression by the songs! Riza, who maintains a BTS fanpage, affirms that BTS songs have deep meanings, and motivates people to not give up on life. “Whenever I am sad, it is BTS that makes me happy,” she affirms.

Like the original Pied Piper of the fables, there is a Pied Piper song from BTS that analyses the mass following: “Follow the sound of the flute, follow this song/ It may be a little dangerous but I’m very sweet/ I’m here to save you, I’m here to ruin you…” The pop band is smart enough to tell the crazed fanbase, “Let’s stop looking and start studying for the exams/ Your parents and boss hate me….”

So the parent in me prays aloud that she will get over her addiction in a few years. She concurs it could be a possibility since BTS may disband – their seven-year contract with Big Hit Entertainment should end in 2025 – or members will have to leave for the mandatory military conscription in South Korea, whichever is earlier.

The naysayers whisper they could be older men who have embraced plastic surgery and Botox to look young. Haters can hate but BTS topped the Billboard charts in September with their first all-English song Dynamite, dismisses the teen with the magnificent BTS obsession.

Tailpiece: Much to the delight of BTS fans in the UAE, multiple billboards across the Dubai Mall will feature posters wishing BTS singer Park Jimin a happy birthday from October 9 to 13.

Fans of S.P. Balasubrahmanyam are all in a state of ecstasy as SP Charan, son of the legendary singer, has now given crucial updates about his health condition. A new video posted by Charan on his Facebook indicates that the singer is recovering from his ill health slowly, but steadily.

According to Charan, SPB’s health, especially the functioning of his lungs, has improved a lot in the past few days. Charan also revealed that his father is now taking part in the physiotherapy session and the singer was able to sit for 15 to 20 minutes.

“Since my last update on September 10, and today being the 14th, there have been a lot of improvements in dad’s health. My dad’s lungs are improving, there is visible repair in the X-rays that we can see. Also, physiotherapy is going well and he has been an active participant in physiotherapy. Doctors have tried to sit him up. He is able to sit for 15 to 20 minutes. They are also going to start oral feeding very soon. As of now, everything is looking good. He continues to be stable,” said SP Charan.

It was on August 5 that S.P. Balasubrahmanyam was admitted to the hospital after he was tested positive for coronavirus. Even though he had mild symptoms, his conditions started worsening soon, and doctors put him in life support.

A few days back, SPB was tested negative for coronavirus, and since then, doctors are trying hard to bring back the legendary singer to normal life. The recent update from Charan clearly indicates that the singer is recovering, and he will soon come back with his iconic smile.

It was on August 13 that legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam was hospitalised after he tested positive for coronavirus infection. Unfortunately, his condition worsened two days back, and he was put on life support. According to latest reports published in an entertainment portal, the legendary singer is getting music therapy to bring down stress and depression.

The report published in Indiaglitz also claimed that the songs used for music therapy are the ones sung by SPB in his golden career. MGM Hospital is apparently playing a mix of emotional, duet, romantic, and philosophical songs to reduce the anxiety level of the singer.

A few hours back, his son SPB Charan had updated that SPB is conscious and is slowly recovering from illness. The singer has also started identifying people, and medical experts believe that it is a positive sign of recovery.

As SPB’s health continues to worry fans and friends, several celebrities are praying for his quick recovery. A few hours back, Superstar Rajinikanth had also conveyed his prayers for the wellbeing of SP Balasubrahmanyam.

“SPB has sweetly sung songs for over 50 years and entertained millions of people. I am glad to hear that he is overcome from the critical stage of Covid-19 and I pray the God that he recovers completely, soon,” wrote Rajinikanth.

On August 13, after testing positive for coronavirus, doctors had asked SPB to undergo isolation in his home. However, SPB himself decided to get admitted to avoid future complications.

Popular Indian singer SP Balasubrahmanyam has been tested positive for coronavirus, and he himself confirmed the news through his official Facebook page. In his recent video, the singer also asked his friends and colleagues to not bother or call him over the phone to get updates on his health.

SP Balasubrahmanyam revealed that he underwent medical checkup after developing symptoms of coronavirus a couple of days back. Upon testing, doctors informed SPB that he has mild coronavirus infection, and asked him to stay at home. However, the singer decided to get admitted to a hospital, as he did not want to take risks.

“Since two-three days, I was having a little discomfort. I had chest congestion, which for a singer is nothing to worry. I also had a cold and fever on and off. I didn’t want to take it easy, so I went to the hospital to get it checked. Doctors said that it’s a mild case of corona and I was asked to stay home and take medication as prescribed. But, I didn’t want to do that as my family is very concerned. So, I got admitted to the hospital,” said SPB in the video.

SP Balasubrahmanyam also revealed that he is totally fine now, and there is nothing to worry about. He requested his friends not to call him, as it will be difficult for him to answer every call.

“I am in good health and nobody has to worry about me. So, please don’t bother to call me and find out how I am. I am perfectly alright except for the cold. Even the fever has subsided. In two days, I will be alright. Thank you for your concern. I couldn’t attend every single call. I have come here mostly to take rest, so that there won’t be any disturbance. Thank you. I am fine, I will be fine,” added SPB.

A few weeks back, Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Aaradhya Bachchan were tested positive for coronavirus. As per the latest updates, Amitabh, Aishwarya, and Aaradhya are free from an infection now, but Abhishek is still in the hospital.
