The big-budget film is produced by C Aswani Dutt, founder of Vyjayanthi Movies. Production house Vyjayanthi Movies shared Kamal Haasan’s casting announcement on its official Twitter page. The tweet read, “Welcoming the greatest actor Ulaganayagan @ikamalhaasan. Our journey becomes Universal now. #ProjectK.” The announcement video showed several clips from Kamal Haasan’s critically-acclaimed movies and introduced him as Ulaga Nayagan (universal hero), the antagonist in the film.

Amitabh Bachchan welcomed Kamal on board. He tweeted on Sunday, “Welcome Kamal .. great working with you again .. it’s been a while!”

A few weeks ago, there were reports of producer Ashwini Dutt approaching Kamal Haasan with a whopping offer of ₹150 crore to play the antagonist in Project K. A reliable source from the film’s unit had told Hindustan Times that Kamal Haasan has been approached for the film but he denied the news about the ₹150 crore offer.

C Aswani Dutt is backing the project in the 50th year of the production house’s inception. The movie is scheduled to be released in cinemas on January 12, 2024, in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.

Project K is a science-fiction thriller which is being made on a massive budget and marks the maiden collaboration between Prabhas and Nag Ashwin of Mahanati fame. Some posters featuring Deepika and Prabhas’ silhouettes were enough to hype up the film.

Actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s sister Priyanka Singh has challenged before the Supreme Court an order upholding a Mumbai Police FIR against her for alleged getting him medication on a fake prescription.

The Bombay High Court had on February 15 said the case filed against Priyanka Singh holds. At the same time, the High Court dismissed a case filed against his other sister, Mitu Singh.

The sisters were accused of forgery and violation of the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act based on complaints by actor Rhea Chakraborty, who dated Sushant Singh Rajput and is being investigated by multiple agencies after his family accused her of having a role in his death last June.

The CBI investigation against Priyanka Singh, who shared the medicine prescription with Sushant Singh Rajput over WhatsApp, will continue, the High Court ruled, an order that she has challenged.

“There is prima facie case found against Priyanka Singh and there should not be any impediment against investigation against her,” the judges said.

WhatsApp texts between Sushant Rajput and Priyanka Singh, which were leaked in September, revealed that his family was aware of his mental health problems.

Chats dated June 8 — six days before Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Mumbai apartment — indicated that Priyanka Singh had asked him to take three medicines – Librium, Nexito and Lonazep. All three are prescribed for depression and anxiety and cannot be given to anyone without medical check-up.

The chat revealed that Priyanka Singh had had also sent a prescription for the drugs on WhatsApp.

The chats had put to question Sushant Singh’s family’s claim that they were unaware of his mental health issues he might have been battling. The family had alleged Rhea Chakraborty had mentally harassed the actor, stole crores from his bank accounts and had a role in his death.

“I am currently in Singapore and have quarantined myself at recovery centre,” she wrote.

The actress is taking things at a slower pace. In an interview with the Hindustan Times said while she is waiting to begin shooting for Bhool Bhulaiya 2, there are no other projects in her pipeline yet.

“I am still looking at stuff. I don’t think there is anything substantial I am in talks for. Anyway, we are not going to start before the second half of this year, anything new is going to take time to get on floors. That’s how I want to be, araam se, ache se,” says Tabu.

Tabu, who had shot portions of the horror-comedy in Lucknow last March, is expected to join the unit in this leg, marking her first shoot post the lockdown.

The 50-year-old adds that she misses holidaying which has been put off due to the pandemic. The actor further says that COVID has made everyone so “helpless” and how she is unable to go on vacations despite having so much time.

Tabu agrees on how everybody wants to go back to work and believe everything is normal, however, they just don’t know when. Though she is hopeful that the industry will soon return to a place where “they can actually go and work fearlessly.”

Bazmee had recently said that he wanted to collaborate with Tabu for quite some time now. “I knew that if I had to cast her, it had to be a solid part. When I started working on Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, I could only think of her for the role. No one can do it better than her,” he said.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, also starring Kartik Aaryan, Kiara Advani, Rajpal Yadav, will release in cinemas on 19 November.

In Assam, Congress was the latest to release its list of 40 candidates for the upcoming polls. Activist Akhil Gogoi, who is in jail since December 2019 under the UAPA, will contest from his newly-floated political party Raijor Dal.

In 2016, Roshan had filed a complaint alleging that someone impersonating him was emailing Ranaut from a bogus email id. Kangana had then claimed that the email id was provided to her by Roshan and they had been communicating through the same email id till 2014. The emails were allegedly sent in 2013 and 2014.

In 2016, Roshan had sent a legal notice to Ranaut after she had referred to him as a silly ex.

Roshan had denied having any kind of relationship with Ranaut. The two actors had worked together in the films ‘Kites’ (2010) and ‘Krrish 3’ (2013). Roshan had then claimed that Ranaut had been sending him hundreds of absurd emails. In 2016, the Cyber Cell had also taken Roshan’s laptop and phone for investigation.

Roshan had accused Ranaut of harassing him by sending him hundreds of emails. Following an initial probe, police recorded Ranaut’s statement after concluding that the emails were allegedly sent from her id. However, Ranaut has denied sending emails to Roshan.

In December 2020, the case, which was earlier with the Cyber Cell of the Mumbai police, was transferred to Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) on a request made by Roshan’s lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani.

Set in the rural Mississippi (a southern US state), the film explores the interracial romance between an African-American man and Indian-American woman.

Responding to a user on Twitter, about the relevance of her films, Nair revealed she is on a mission to “resurrect” her movies.

She said “Mississippi Masala” is the first one as the year 2021 will mark its 30th anniversary.

“I’m on a mission. Resurrecting my films. ‘Mississippi Masala’ re-mastered & re-releasing on its 30th anniversary in 2021! We mattered long before movements woke up the masses,” the 63-year-old director wrote.

Also featuring Sharmila Tagore, Roshan Seth and Mohan Agashe, “Mississippi Masala” was released in France on September 18 in 1991 before making its debut in the UK and the US next year on January 17 and February 5, respectively.

It was well received by critics and earned a standing ovation at the Sundance Film Festival in 1992 and won an award at the Venice Film Festival.

Besides this film, the stage musical adaptation of Nair’s 2001 movie “Monsoon Wedding” will premiere in India in November, 2021.

Nair, whose directorial credits also include movies such as “Salaam Bombay”, “The Namesake” and “Queen of Katwe”, most recently worked on the series adaptation of Vikram Seth’s novel “A Suitable Boy”.

The show premiered on BBC One in the UK in July 2020, before hitting streamer Netflix in October.

Salman Khan was arrested in 1998 for hunting two blackbucks in a village near Jodhpur, where he was shooting for Sooraj Barjatya’s Hum Saath Saath Hai. A case under the Arms Acts was registered against him, and the court had demanded the submission of his arms licence. However, in 2003, he told the court that his licence had gone missing. The prosecution had argued that he had submitted a false affidavit as his licence was not lost but submitted for renewal.

This is the second time that the actor has been freed from the allegation. Randhir Kapoor confirmed the news of his brother’s death. While speaking to Times of India, he said, “I have lost my youngest brother, Rajiv. He is no more. The doctors tried their best but could not save him.” He added, “I am at the hospital, waiting for his body.”

The veteran actor died of a heart attack. An official statement from the family is still awaited. Rajiv Kapoor was known for his role of Narendra in Ram Teri Ganga Maili. The film released in the year 1985 and marked the last directorial venture of Raj Kapoor.

Rajiv Kapoor made his Bollywood debut with Ek Jaan Hain Hum in the year 1983. He then went on to act in films like Aasmaan, Lover Boy, Zabardast and Hum To Chale Pardes.

In April 2020, Rishi Kapoor died after a two year-long battle with cancer. The late actor was battling leukemia in 2018. His death came as a sudden shock and tributes started pouring in from his industry friends, family, and fans.

A bench comprising Justices Ashok Bhushan, R Subhash Reddy and M R Shah was hearing as many as three separate petitions of filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar, Amazon Prime India head Aparna Purohit, producer Himanshu Mehra, the show’s writer Gaurav Solanki and actor Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub.

The apex court also asked the makers of the web series to approach the high court for anticipatory bail or quashing of FIRs.

“We cannot use the power under Section 482 CrPC. We are not inclined to grant interim protection,” the Bench said.
