Attempt to stop spread of COVID-19 through cluster containment strategy in Kerala

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that attempts are being made through containment strategy to stop the spread of COVID-19 in areas where clusters are forming. According to statistics available until July 16, there are now 84 clusters in Kerala, including 10 large community clusters.

Lockdown is being implemented in a centralised way in areas that have already become clusters and are likely to become clusters in the near future. Other measures are also being implemented in these areas.

In the coastal areas shops selling essential commodities can be opened. The ban on fishing that has been already implemented will continue.

Steps will be taken by the Civil Supplies department to distribute rice and other food items. The milk distribution centre in Poonthura will continue to function. The District Disaster Management Authority will declare the lockdown measures separately.

The work to establish first line management centres will be completed as early as possible. People in containment zone should not step outside their homes. People would be allowed to undertake travel only for the most urgent matters. Steps are being taken to distribute essential commodities, Mr. Vijayan said.
