Arnab Goswami’s bail plea rejected by Mumbai High Court

Celebrated Indian journalist Arnab Goswami’s interim bail plea was rejected by the Mumbai High Court on Monday. As the court has rejected the bail plea, Arnab will stay his seventh consecutive night in jail today.

It was on November 4 that the police arrested Arnab, Feroz Shaikh, and Neetish Sarda in connection with a suicide case of a Mumbai architect and his mother.

The Bombay High Court said that Arnab can apply for regular bail in the sessions court. Earlier today, Arnab had applied for regular bail in the Alibaugh Sessions Court.

In the meantime, Arnab Goswami’s Republic TV is strongly moving forward with the campaign named India with Arnab, and the channel is calling Arnab’s arrest illegal detention.

In a late night order issued on November 4, Alibaugh chief judicial magistrate Sunayna Pingale had rejected the police custody plea, and remanded Arnab for 14 days.

Earlier, Arnab had filed a habeus corpus petition alleging that his arrest was illegal. However, special counsel for the Maharashtra government revealed that the habeus corpus plea is not maintainable, as he is in custody through a proper lawful order.
