It was on November 9 that Akshay Kumar’s most anticipated movie of the year Laxmii premiered on Disney+Hotstar. Even though the film received negative reviews, the Raghava Lawrence directorial has succeeded in setting a new OTT platform record.

According to reports, the film received record viewership, and it shattered the previous record of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s Dil Bechara.

Disney+Hotstar also confirmed this news on their social media page. In a recent Instagram post, the OTT giant revealed that Laxmii has emerged as the biggest opener ever in Disney+Hotstar.

Akshay Kumar also issued a press release and thanked his fans for the warm welcome to his new movie.

“I am overwhelmed and overjoyed by the response that Laxmii received. It’s heartening to know that audiences and fans from across the country logged on to Disney+ Hotstar VIP to watch the movie within hours of its release. Who doesn’t love beating records – whether it’s at the box-office or opening night on streaming platforms. Nothing is comparable to this feeling of euphoria,” said Akshay.

Laxmii is the remake of Tamil blockbuster Kanchana. The original Tamil version of the movie had received positive responses upon its release, but Laxmii was panned by critics and audiences alike.
