Several experts have previously predicted that the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) will do more harm than good for humanity. And now, SpaceX founder Elon Musk has warned that AI could become smarter than humans by 2025.

Elon Musk made these remarks in his recent interview given to the New York Times. According to Musk, the world will be weird if computers become smarter than humans.

“We are headed toward a situation where AI is vastly smarter than humans. I think that time frame is less than five years from now. But that doesn’t mean that everything goes to hell in five years. It just means that things get unstable or weird,” said Musk during the interview.

During the talk, Musk also called the rise of AI an existential threat to humanity. The South African billionaire made it clear that his deepest concern is Google’s Deep Mind.

“Just the nature of the AI that they’re building is one that crushes all humans at all games,” added Musk.

Earlier, Musk had claimed that robots powered with artificial intelligence could make humans an endangered species. He also argued that artificial intelligence is a system that could be strictly regulated to combat dangerous repercussions.

“When a species of primate, homo sapiens, became much smarter than other primates, it pushed all the other ones into a very small habitat… So there are very few mountain gorillas and orangutans and chimpanzees,” said Elon Musk.

A few months back, a poll conducted in the United Kingdom had revealed that majority of the Britishers are still apprehensive about AI dominating the world. Three out of five people who took part in the poll claimed that AI systems functioning without human assistance could turn dangerous for humanity.
