After India, United States to ban TikTok

Following tensions in the border, India banned several Chinese apps that includes the much popular TikTok last month. And now, following the footsteps of India, the United States has also decided to ban Tik Tok in the country.

The decision to ban TikTok has been confirmed by President Donald Trump, and he made it clear he would take action in this regard, as soon as Saturday using emergency economic power or executive order.

The decision from Donald Trump comes just a few days after several lawmakers in the country blamed TikTok for leaking users’ private data to the Chinese government. However, ByteDance who owns TikTok had ruled out all these allegations and revealed that they have no links to the communist regime.

“We are not political, we do not accept political advertising and have no agenda — our only objective is to remain a vibrant, dynamic platform for everyone to enjoy. TikTok has become the latest target, but we are not the enemy,” said Kevin Mayer, CEO of TikTok.

The popularity of TikTok surged drastically among the general public in 2017, when ByteDance acquired US-based app Musical.ly, and merged it with its own video service. As India has banned TikTok, and the US is planning to ban it, the platform will lose a fair share of its users, and it will negatively impact its business in the coming months.
