Actor Madhavan transforms barren land into lush green farmland

Actor Madhavan is also an environmentalist at heart. He recently utilised his skills and love for nature to transform a barren land into a coconut farm during the lockdown. He and his brother Subayogan started this year when they came across a barren land in Tamil Nadu village.

The plan was to rejuvenate the exhausted and barren soil using modern, organic and ancient indigenous methods of agriculture. The land was gradually restored to a healthy and productive state. It is reported that even earthworms and native birdlife made a comeback.

The lush green coconut plantation is the testament to the health of the soil and sustainable methods adopted. It took three and half years for the actor to transform the land into a thriving farm. The coconut seedlings are non-hybrid variety.

“It has been one of the most satisfying and rewarding experiences of our lives. It was wonderful to see the land rejuvenated and yield it was meant to be in the first place. From preparing the land with right mulch to putting the right fish in the well every bit of learning has been priceless and so worth it. We will be replicating this on other locations around India and the world,” he told ANI.

This project is an important step towards transforming sterile land into an agriculturally rich, self-sufficient organic field. It not only promotes the need to adopt an organic way of farming but also helps in enhancing economic progress.

In the career front, Madhavan is currently awaiting the release of ‘Maara’, directed by debutant Dhilip and it will have Shraddha Srinath is the female lead. The star’s other film in the making ‘Rocketry- The Nambi Effect’ is also waiting for a theatrical release. The movie based on the life of rocket scientist Nambi Narayanan is written, produced and directed by the actor himself. Simran plays the female lead in the flick which is shot simultaneously in Hindi, Tamil and English.
