Sharjah Municipality declared on June 23 that paid parking in Sharjah will resume from July 1. Parking in the emirate has been free from April 1 to June 30 owing to movement restrictions to counter the spread of Covid-19. This was done by the Sharjah Executive Council to reduce financial burden on people during the pandemic.
According to Thabit Salem Al Tarifi, director-general of Sharjah Municipality, the municipality has reset the parking meters to dispense tickets after June 30.
In Abu Dhabi, the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of the Department of Municipalities and Transport had announced on June 21 that public parking fees will be resumed starting from July 1 at 8 am. The emirate also had a three-month suspension of fees.
ITC said that the Mawaqif fees can also be paid with cash or rechargeable cards, and that all payment machines are sterilised on a daily basis to ensure public safety. Mawaqif timings are from 8 am to 12 am from Saturday to Thursday.
No parking fees are applied on Fridays, official holidays and for people of determination. Parking spaces nearby mosques are exempted from parking fees for 45 minutes from the call to prayer.
