Nine hundred and twenty-seven people in Kerala were diagnosed with COVID-19 on July 26. According to Minister of Health and Social Justice K. K. Shailaja, of the new active cases, 733 are cases of infection through contact and the contact source of 67 is not clear. 76 are returnees from abroad and 91 from other states. At the same time, 689 patients were cured on the day.
Two deaths were also reported taking the COVID related death toll in the State to 61. The deceased have been identified as Varghese (71) of Thrissur district and Abdul Khader (71) of Malappuram district.
The details of the positive cases are 175 persons from Thiruvananthapuram district, 107 in Kasaragod district, 91 from Pathanamthitta district, 74 in Kollam district, 61 from Ernakulam district, 57 in Kozhikode district, 56 from Malappuram district, 54 in Kottayam district, 48 from Idukki district, 47 in Kannur district, 46 from Alappuzha district, 42 in Palakkad district, 41 from Thrissur district and 28 in Wayanad district.
The district-wise figures of local transmission are 164 persons in Thiruvananthapuram district, 105 from Kasaragod district, 59 in Kollam district, 57 from Ernakulam district, 53 in Pathanamthitta district, 48 from Kozhikode district, 45 in Kottayam district, 39 from Malappuram district, 37 in Palakkad district, 35 in Alappuzha district, 31 each from Idukki and Kannur districts, 15 in Thrissur district and 14 in Wayanad district.
Sixteen healthcare workers were also infected – eight in Thiruvananthapuram district, three from Ernakulam district, two in Alappuzha district, and one each from Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Kannur districts. Four BSF personnel, four KSE employees and a KLF employee in Thrissur district, an ITBP personnel in Alappuzha district and a DSC personnel in Kannur district are among those infected.
The district-wise figures of the patients who tested negative today are 121 patients in Malappuram district, 107 from Ernakulam district, 70 each in Kollam and Kannur districts, 57 from Thrissur district, 51 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 50 from Alappuzha district, 48 in Pathanamthitta district, 37 from Kottayam district, 34 in Kasaragod district, 31 from Idukki district, eight in Kozhikode district and five from Palakkad district.
So far 9,302 patients have recovered from of Coronavirus infection and at present, 9,655 patients are undergoing treatment.
There are currently 1,56,162 people under observation in various districts of the state, 1,47,182 at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 8,980 in hospitals. 1,277 persons were hospitalised today.
During the last 24 hours, 20,626 samples were analysed. Till now, a total of 6,72,748 samples have been sent for testing and of these, the results of 7,492 samples are yet to come. 1,12,714 samples were collected from high-risk groups as part of Sentinel Surveillance and 1,09,143 samples were negative.
29 new places were designated as hotspots today while 15 were excluded. There are 494 hotspots in Kerala now.
