84 COVID-19 cases in Kerala, highest ever in a day

Eighty four people were infected with COVID-19 in Kerala, the highest recorded on a single day since the outbreak of the virus in the state on January 30, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said at his daily press conference on May 28.
Of the total found to have infected 31 people arrived from abroad, while 48 people were from other states of the country and five people contracted the infection through contact. A Telegana resident, Anjaiah, who arrived from Rajasthan died in the state. Three people were cured of the viral infection in the state and the total number of hotspots increased by six to 82 on the day.
Kerala’s death rate from the viral infection was one of the lowest in the country at 0.5% compared to 2.89% for the whole country. There were 526 COVID-19 cases under treatment
In view of the increasing number of arrivals, the state plans to increase the testing for the virus to 3,000 persons per day. While 60,655 samples were send for testing, 58,460 samples were negative. On May 28, six new places were declared as hotspots bringing the total number of hotspots in the state to 82. Cases were filed against six people for violating the conditions of quarantine and 325 people were fined for not using masks.
