82 confirmed with COVID-19 in Kerala on June 15

Eighty-two people were confirmed with COVID-19 on June 15. Of these, 13 were in Ernakulam district, 11 in Pathanamthitta district, 10 each in Kottayam and Kannur districts, seven in Palakkad district. Six each in Malappuram and Kozhikode districts, five in Alappuzha district, four in Kollam district, three each in Thrissur and Kasargod districts, two in Idukki district and one each in Thiruvananthapuram (died on June 12) and Wayanad districts.

The result of the test conducted on the sample of S. Rameshan (67) from Vanchiyoor in Thiruvananthapuram was confirmed. He had been suffering from lung disease for long and had also sought treatment for heart disease. Of those who turned positive, 49 had arrived from abroad (UAE – 19, Kuwait – 12, Saudi Arabia – 9, Qatar – 5, Oman – 2 and Nigeria – 2), and 23 from other States (Maharashtra – 13, Tamil Nadu – 4, Delhi – 3, Rajasthan – 1, West Bengal – 1, Telangana – 1).

Nine people got the disease by contact with others. Two each in Kottayam, Palakkad, Alappuzha and Thrissur districts and one in Malappuram got the disease through contact.

The tests of 73 people who were in treatment turned negative. Twenty-one from Kannur district, 12 from Palakkad district, 11 from Kollam district, 10 from Malappuram district six from Thrissur district, four each from Kozhikode and Kasargod districts, three from Thiruvananthapuram district two from Ernakulam district were the people whose tests had turned negative. There are 1,348 people under treatment after being confirmed positive 1,174 were curd of the disease.

A total of 1,20,727 people are under observation in various districts of the state. Of these, 1,18,704 were under home/institutional observation, 2,023 people in hospitals and 219 were admitted to hospitals in June 15.

Four thousand four hundred and ninety-one samples were tested in the last 24 hours and 1,14,753 samples of individuals were sent for testing and results of 1,996 samples are awaited.

Apart from this, as part of the sentinel surveillance, of the 31,424 samples collected from health workers, guest workers and people involved in social work, 29,991 samples turned negative. In total 1,51,686 samples, including routine sample, augmented sample, sentinel sample, pooled sentinel CB nat and True Nat were sent for testing.

Five more new hotspots were declared on June 15. Algappa Nagar, Vellagalore and Tholoor in Thrissur, Kinanoor Karinthalam in Kasargod and Thalassery in Kannur were the new hotspots. Vandazhi and Puthunagaram in Palakkad were removed from the hotspots list. There are now a total of125 hotspots in the State.
