79 people confirmed with COVID-19 in Kerala on June 16

Seventy-nine people were confirmed with COVID-19 on June 16, 60 patients were cured of the viral infection and 1,366 were under treatment, Until now 1,234 patients were cured. There was one new hotspot on the day and 16 areas have been removed from the hotspot list.

Fifteen people from Malappuran district, 13 from Ernakulam district, seven each from Alappuzha, Thrissur and Kannur districts, six each from Pathanamthitta and Palakkad districts, four each from Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam and Kozhikode districts and two from Kasargod were confirmed with COVID-19.

Among those confirmed with the novel coronavirus 47 people arrived from abroad (Kuwait – 23, UAE – 12, Qatar – 5, Oman – 3, Saudi Arabia – 2, Bahrain – 1 and Tajikisthan – 1) and 26 from other states (Maharashtra -13, Tamil Nadu – 5, Delhi – 3, West Bengal – 2, Karnataka – 1, Gujarat -1, Odihsa – 1).

Five people got the virus through contact. Two people in Thiruvanathapuram district, and two each from Malappuram, Kannur and Palakkad districts got the infection through contact. A health worker in Pathanamthitta also got the disease through contact.

Meanwhile, the samples of 60 people who were under treatment turned negative on June 16. There are 1,22,143 people under observation in various districts. Of these, 1,20,157 people were under home/institutional quarantine and 1,986 were under hospital quarantine. A total of 210 people were admitted to hospitals on June 16. Four thousand and three samples were tested in the past 24 hours. Samples of 1,18,893 samples (Including private labs) were sent for test and the results of 4,081 samples were yet to be received.

Of the 32,534 samples of health workers, guest workers and social workers sent for testing as part of sentinel surveillance, 31,093 samples turned negative. The only hotspot declared on the day was in Kattakada of Thiruvananthapuram district. There were a total of 110 hotspots as of June 16.
